This is all very interesting. I think that I may be ignoring much of the information here because I do not see the connection yet. My Samuel was born in Sullivan CO TN in 1786 to Samuel and Elizabeth McMurray as shown on his death certificate in Scott Co VA Nov 6, 1856. He married Emeline Jane Ramey about 1808 in Scott Co Va and had 10 children that I know of. We decended through John. The family remained in Scott Co. All the McMurrays in Scott Co decended from this Samuel. Where he his parents came from and any sibblings is still a mystery. Any assistance would make my day. Thanks again, Lisa Stephenson

I don't know if we are from the same McMurray family or not. My lineage runs from John McMurray born in Ireland who came to America before the Revolutionary War. His sons were Joseph McMurray born Abt. 1795 in Tennessee Territory and William Lafayette McMurray and there were three younger sisters, Sarah (b. 1809 in Warren Co., TN), Mary Ann "Polly" and Nancy. This family moved to Washington Co., Arkansas in 1829 in the area which later became Madison Co. This William McMurray sold his land in Madison Co. in 1846 and moved elsewhere. I Warren County, you will find a number of McMurray (and McMurry's) in the 1820 Census: John, Betsy, James, Samuel, and Alexander. I don't know if any of these were related to John McMurray (from Ireland), but family information indicates that John had one brother that came with him. Looking at land records in Warren County: Alexander and John purchased land in 1814. Alexander sold his land in 1819 and John in 1825. I can send you a file in Microsoft Word 97 on this data if you are interested.

I'm writing to introduce myself to the McMurry-L group. My name is Robert Anderson and I am researching several generations of McMurrys. To date I have the following generations and hope to expand this with your assistance: Joseph Alexander McMurry (b: 1812 in TN)/ Elizabeth Willis Oldham (b:1819 TN, d:1858 TX) George Washington McMurry (b: 1854 TX)/ Jane F. Tate James Isaac Allen McMurry (b: 3 Feb 1886 OK, d: 9 Apr 1951)/ Alma Choral Turk (b:1892 Roscoe, TX, d:abt 1954 Alice, TX) Allen Turk McMurry (b: 29 Jun 1917, d: 24 Feb 1977)/ Mary Louise Smith (b: 19 Jan 1919, d: 5 Mar 1976) Geraldine Ann McMurry I'm early in my McMurry research, but I am concentrating on Joseph Alexander McMurry: I am currently trying to locate the parents of Joseph Alexander McMurry in TN. He was very closely associated with an Oldham family and traveled from TN to TX with his wife, her brother John, and her father, Moses Oldham. In searching for McMurrys in close proximity to Oldhams I have located a William McMurry in Rutherford Co., TN in the 1830 Census who is the correct age and had children the correct age, but I haven't made a definite match. If any of this rings a bell with anyone, I would be thrilled to have additional information. Robert Anderson anderson@borntorun.com
