Wilma, I just realized I had a second note from you. Polly Mcmurry (Sometimes referred to as Mary ), was born in Tenn about 1784. Died in Madison county Ark sometime after 1860. Is buried in Clifty cemetery, Madison Ark. She was married to Josiah Means. It is the generation Before this that I am interested in. I am trying to find my American Indian roots and I think it comes thru The Means'. I thought perhaps it may have been thru the mcmurrys, but it looks like they came from Ireland, so I am going to run that out as well. I'm new to this, and i am going to track down everything I can. Again, thanks. Elmer
Wilda, Thanks a million for answering. I'll chew on this for a while and see what I can do with it. Again, thanks. Elmer

Elmer, I see from LDS your Means and McMurry are in Madison Co., AR (I'm from Washington Co., right next door, but we have been unable to connect to your McM's.) However, the McMurrys in Madison Co. apparently came from Warren Co., TN, as did your Means. There are postings on the web which state that the first ancestor in Warren Co. came from Ireland or wherever, i.e., that he was the first immigrant. I believe, however, that he connects back to the Augusta McM's, through the group which were in KY, William (VA)'s bunch. This is because one of the Warren Co. group, named Woods, is the son of a James Woods, who m. Mary McMurry, widow of John, in Barren Co., KY. A group apparently came from that area in KY to Warren Co., TN, a religious transplant. Someone needs to research all the deeds, wills, etc. in several counties in this area of KY to find these connections, as the area -- Metcalf Co.? -- which they were in had "jumped" from one county to another several times, and the records would be in everywhere from VA to Lincoln Co. KY to Barren Co., Ky, and 2 or 3 more KY counties. Wilda McMurry
Elmer, both postings came through loud and clear, but do you have any dates or locations to orient us to these people? Thanks. Wilda McMurry

Patricia, I think we are looking for similar relatives. I'm looking for connections to Polly Ann Mcmurry. Sometime she is referred to as Mary Ann with "Polly " in parentheses. The info I've got so far is that she was married to Josiah Means and they had a daughter named Elizabeth. Elibeth would be My ggg grandmother. Here, however, is the kicker. I have also found a Polly Ann Mcmurray married to Josiah Means, with a daughter Elizabeth. At first glance you would think it was the same, but all the dates are different. Elizabeth married John Calico sometimes referred to as Callico. They had a daughter named Violet, who married William Johnson. They had a daughter named Madiline, (sometime Madeline). Madiline married Elias, (Lee) Vanlandingham. These are my grandparents on my mothers' side. My grandfather stopped using Vanlandingham and just used Van. Patricia, this may be more than you want to know but I thought you might be interested. I don't know where you want to go from the Mcmurry connection. Looking foreward to hearing from you. Elmer
Dear Patricia , I just posted a long message to the Mcmurry bulletin board, I think. This is the first time I have tried it. The gist of it is that I believe we have ancetors in common thru the Mcmurry line. My Mother, Mary Van was the daughter of Elias (Lee) Vanlandingham, (He shortened it to Van) and Madiline Johnson. Madiline was the Daughter of William Johnson and Violet Calico (sometime Callico). Violet was the daughter of John Calico and Elizabeth Means. Elizabeth Means was the daughter of Josiah Means and Polly Ann Mcmurry. Sometime Polly is referred to as Mary Ann (Polly) Mcmurry. This may be way more than you wanted to know, but I always prefer to get more info than less. Sometimes it gives me a clue as to some other link. What I'm having trouble now is that there seems to be a stone wall in finding the ancestry of Josiah and Polly. Do you have anything on them? I'll be waiting to hear from you.
