My ancestors were Patrick and Mary Mcloughlin (Mary's maiden name was McGowan). They were both born sometime around 1800 and left Leitrim with several children and relatives. The boat ride was apparently much longer than usual, due to poor sea conditions and at least 3 people from their party died on the boat. If it makes a difference, the boat was supposedly a cargo ship which transported wood back and forth between Canada and Ireland.
