I'd like to post separately that I'm interested in the McLOUGHLIN or McLAUGHLIN families in London, England, in the 1800's. My husband's grandmother was born Annie Mary Magdalene McLAUGHLIN or McLOUGHLIN ~1890, probably in London, England. I'm told there were 2 Anna or Annie McLAUGHLIN's or McLOUGHLIN's born in London in the 1887 to 1890 timeframe: The 1891 census for London showed: John McLOUGHLIN born in Ireland, and he was a seaman. His wife was Mary and they had 3 young children, including an Annie, 4. This was probably the Anna, b~1887 in London. The 1881 census for London showed: Another John James McLOUGHLIN who was born in Scotland. He and Jessie McLOUGHLIN had 2 young daughters, Eleanor and Catherine. This was the possible family as the 1891 census showed 4 orphaned sisters, Catherine, Louisa, Sophia, and Annie McLOUGHLIN living in the "Convent of the Sacred Heart" in London, England. That John had died in London in 1890. This Mrs. Jessie (WAGNER) McLOUGHLIN, a widow, remarried to Samuel LUSCOMBE in London in 1899. The extended family, including her daughters, is in London in the 1901 census. Annie McLOUGHLIN arrived in the US in ~1908 at Age ~18, and we don't know whether she came alone, or with family members. And, I can't find her in the 1910 census. She married in Waltham, MA, US ~1910-1912 to James GAVIN. His parents had been born in 1860 in County Galway, Ireland, and came to the US in 1880's. Their large family lived in Waltham. Author: bbffrrpp Surnames: McLoughlin, McLaughlin, Wagner, McDermott, Luscombe, Gavin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcloughlin/249/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello. I've been trying to find more information about my husband's grandmother for several years. He knew very little about her childhood. The family-story was that Annie Mary Magdalene McLAUGHLIN was born in Ireland ~1890, and she was raised in England. And, she spent several years of her childhood in a Convent. >From census information, I found out Annie came to the US ~1908 (Age ~18) and married in Waltham, MA (US) in ~1910 to James GAVIN of Waltham. (His parents b1860 in County Galway, Ireland, and came to MA/US in 1880's.) This week I received the death record for Mrs. Annie GAVIN from 1949 in Cambridge, MA, where the family lived. It said that her father was (unknown) McLAUGHLIN and her mother was (unknown) McDERMOTT. They were born in Ireland and she was born in London, England. (Annie had thought her father was born in England and she was born in Ireland.) I just mentioned this on the Ireland Mailing List and 2 people responded with information. They found the possible, extended family of Annie in the 1901 census for London, England. Probable step-father, Samuel LUSCOMBE, and mother, Jessie LUSCOMBE, with her children, Catherine McLOUGHLIN, 23, Louise McLOUGHLIN, 19, Sophia McLOUGHLIN, 14, and Annie McLOUGHLIN, 11. And, Samuel LUSCOMBE and Jessie McLOUGHLIN had married in London in 1899. And, John McLOUGHLIN and Jessie WAGNER had married in London in 1873. The 1881 census showed John McLOUGHLIN had been born in Scotland in ~1856. And, he and Jessie had 2 young daughters, Eleanor and Catherine. Evidently Elearnor died young as she is not mentioned in the 1891 census. John died in 1890 and that was when Annie was the year Annie was born. Possibly their 5 young daughters were in the "Convent of the Sacred Heart" in London from 1891 to 1898; 3 of the girls were there in the 1891 census but Annie would have been an infant. One problem with this family is that the death record in Cambridge, MA, in 1949 for Annie showed her mother's maiden name as McDERMOTT. But, Annie died suddenly at 58, and either her adult children didn't know the information about their mother's parents, or had remembered wrong. Or, perhaps Annie didn't know the exact details. I can offer another FYI that there was another Anna McLOUGHLIN / McLAUGHLIN born in London, England, in ~1887. Her parents appear to be John McLOUGHLIN, a seaman, born in Ireland. This 1891 census also showed his wife as Mary, born in London, and 3 young children, including Annie, 4, born in London. When Annie McLOUGHLIN / McLAUGHLIN arrived in the US in ~1908, we don't know whether she traveled alone at Age ~18, or whether she traveled with family members. There were several Annie McLAUGHLIN's arriving in the US ~1908 at the Ellis Island site, but they don't seem to match my husband's grandmother's information. I was wondering if anyone knew of the above families, or found the names familiar. Betty (near Lowell, MA, USA) (James and Annie GAVIN had 3 sons and 2 daughters and descendants are still in the area.) Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. McLoughlin, Michael J. cantorjoeocho (View posts) Posted: 6 Oct 2008 7:29AM GMT Classification: Obituary Surnames: McLoughlin,Webb McLoughlin, Michael J. MICHAEL J. McLOUGHLIN, 63, passed away at his home in Bozeman, Montana, Tuesday evening, September 30, 2008. He was born January 23, 1945 in Saginaw, Michigan. Michael was the fourth son of Iris and Pat McLoughlin's 6 children. He graduated from St. Mary's Cathedral High School in Saginaw and enlisted in the Army in 1966. He served in Vietnam as a private in the Army's 1st Division until 1968. He then earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Michigan State University in 1971. Michael was the beloved husband of Heidi McLoughin; beloved father of Justin Michael McLoughlin, and James Patrick McLoughlin, dearly loved grandfather of Chase Michael McLoughlin; cherished brother of John (Barbara) McLoughlin, James McLoughlin, Robert (Janet) McLoughin, and Mary McLoughlin (Martin Quinnan); dearly beloved uncle of Linda (Matt) Figel, Patty (Paul) Major, Cathy McLoughlin, Mike (Mickey) McLoughlin, Phoenix (Creighton) Burke, Rose McLoughlin, Patrick McLoughlin, Ellen Quinnan, and Emily Quinnan; dear nephew of Jackie (Bob) McLoughin; great uncle to 11 nieces and nephews; and cousin of many McLoughlins and Webbs in Tennessee and California. His youngest sister, Catherine, his parents, Pat and Iris, preceded him in death. Michael retired from Sysco Corporation after 34 years of loyal service. He began his career at the Saginaw, Michigan operation in 1971, where he held various sales and merchandising positions. He was named president of that company in 1979. He then transferred to serve as president and chief executive officer of Sysco Food Services Chicago in 1986, where he ran the company for 11 years. In 1997 he transferred to Portland, Oregon where he was named president and chief executive officer of Sysco Food Services of Portland. Then in 2002 he took over the operations in San Francisco, where he served as president and chief executive officer until his retirement in 2005. Michael believed in hard work and mentored a great many people during his career. To paraphrase the words of his own respected mentor, John Woodhouse, retired Chairman and CEO Sysco Corporation, "He will be missed... We will always maintain our memories of him as an associate who went that extra mile and always represented Sysco with a special variety of class...Michael's leadership capabilities brought him to the top of the list...He had the ability to take a mediocre company to new heights and excellence...His achievements are unprecedented...His many contributions will be remembered and he will always be respected for his very creative leadership." Michael lived his life with courage and integrity. He was honest and direct and always stood up for what he believed in. He called it, as he saw it, no pretense or affectation, but often with great humor. Those qualities are as refreshing, as they are rare and ones that he exhibited his entire life. From the time he was a young boy and throughout his life Michael loved the outdoors, dogs and horses. He was also an avid Harley rider and loved his '93 Fatboy. He enjoyed hunting with bow & arrow and was a repeat Outward Bound participant. He realized his life long dream, when with the love of his life, his wife Heidi, built a ranch in Bozeman, Montana, that is home to their four dogs, six horses, and seven barnyard cats, - which he "tolerated." Even though his only exposure to asbestos was as a young boy helping his Dad dismantle the asbestos casing around old furnace pipes, Michael was diagnosed with Mesothelioma, in February of 2007. Over the past 20 months, Michael and Heidi have had a steady stream of visitors to their ranch in Bridger Canyon - many of them family members for repeated visits but also a host of Sysco friends from around the country. Michael was straight, honest and true and beyond that, he was delightful company - funny and engaging, a born storyteller and a raconteur. He was devoted to his family and loyal to his convictions. We will cherish and hold dear our memories of him forever. A private "Celebration of Life" will be held for family and close friends on Saturday, November 1st. Announcements will be sent. An Open House will follow from 4 to 7PM at the McLoughlin Home to which everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Bozeman Deaconess Cancer Center or Bozeman Deaconess Hospice, 931 Highland Blvd. Suite 3200, Bozeman, MT 59715. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Dokken-Nelson Funeral Service. begin 666 spacer.gif K1TE&.#EA`0`!`( ``````````"'Y! $`````+ `````!``$```("1 $`.P`` ` end
