Author: Susan_Gomez Surnames: McGreevey, McGreevy, Malone, McGloughlin, McLoughlin, McLaughlin, Brennan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcloughlin/279/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have recently come across some information on family members. From "The Search for Missing Friends": "23 Apr 1870 - OF BRIDGET, JANE, and CATHERINE McGREEVEY, from Ballyfermoyle, parish of Ardcarno, county Roscommon. Bridget was married to a man named Malone, and he died in Ireland; Catherine was married in New Orleans to a man named Patrick McGloughlin. They came to this country about 20 years ago; when last heard from, 15 years ago, they were in New Orleans. Information of them will be received by their sister, Mary McGreevy, or niece, Catherine McDermott, Union Springs, Cayuga county, N. Y." Locations should be Ballyformoyle and Ardcarn, civil parish Boyle in Roscommon. Bridget married Bernard Malone and had sons Dennis, b. abt. 2/1844 and John, b. abt. 9/1846. Bridget's sister Mary (c. 1813-1893) was married to James Brennan. The sisters also had a brother, Dominick (c. 1814-1904), who lived in Union Springs, NY. I believe I may have found Bridget McGreevey Malone and son, Dennis, living in 5th ward, New Orleans at the time of the 1860 census. I cannot be sure though. I've had no luck with immigration or vital records but do see Bridget and Dennis Malones in various NO directories. If any of these names look familiar, please let me know. Thanks! My ancestors were Patrick and Mary Mcloughlin (Mary's maiden name was McGowan). They were both born sometime around 1800 and left Leitrim with several children and relatives. The boat ride was apparently much longer than usual, due to poor sea conditions and at least 3 people from their party died on the boat. If it makes a difference, the boat was supposedly a cargo ship which transported wood back and forth between Canada and Ireland. Author: Brendanmjfarrell Surnames: McLoughlin McLaughlin Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcloughlin/40.82/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Dick, My name is Brendan Farrell, my Grandmother 92 is Winifred McLoughlin, and i'm trying to trace information on her father's family who lived in Cloone throughout the 1800's and early 1900's. They may go back even further.  I suspect there are relatives still living in the area today but we do not know.   My research so far tells me that my great Grandfather was born William McLoughlin 18th June 1878. I believe his father (my great great grandfather) was Michael McLoughlin and his mother was Mary Anne McLoughlin (nee Gray or Grey).  They had 9 children of which William was the eldest we believe. He left Cloone at 17 and joined the British Army Connaught rangers & fought in Africa, India and Europe. My grandmother can remember these facts and my checks on the census suggest that the family may be the one listed in Esker, Cloone. Birth records for William also confirm William's  parent's names so I believe the Mary Anne listed in both the 1901 & 1911 is my Great Great grandmother. I'd love to be sure about these facts and learn more, especially about living relations in the area. Also it has been said in the family that they had land etc but lost some of it due to "issues with drink". Also, I know what happened to William (returned to Ireland in 1922 and lived til mid 60's in Dublin) but no one seems to know what happened the rest of the siblings.  The house was said to be built from stone from "lord Leitrim's estate" but I've no idea what this means or if it still exists? I'd also love to be able to trace the family back even further. I also believe there would be relatives in the USA or Canada?? Any help or information you can offer me is much appreciated, even if only to point me in the right direction. Kind regards Brendan Farrell Ph. 086-2627692 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: jadrsr Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcloughlin/278/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am seeking information about James McLoughlin b. abt. 1825 in Ireland and Jane Cannon b. 1823 in Ireland. They married 3 Aug 1848 in St. Joachim Church in Philadelphia. There is the possibility that Jane immigrated with her mother and siblings (likely to meet their father in Pennsylvania) sometime when Jane was a child. I am pretty sure Jane has a brother named Thomas. James McLoughlin's immigration is unknown, although it obviously had to be before his marriage date. I am trying to find where in Ireland they came from. They had eight children: Andrew James, John, Mary, Elizabeth, James, Edward, Jane Agatha (my ggm) and Thomas. Even the tiniest clue would be appreciated! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Fr. Crosby has taken the time to photograph each gravestone in the cemetery, with a brief description for each. What he didn't do, is give the full details of what is on each of the gravestones. You have to go to Shrule in person and walk the cememtery to find that out yourself. http://shrule.com/?page_id=952 Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
