That knowledge shouldn't be wasted - the stories are just too important to go untold. Thank you for sharing some of them with me, Susan McIntyre --------------E4DF99F08FCE1A6BD462CCD9 Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Content-Disposition: inline Received: by rei.mich.com (mbox sbmc) (with Cubic Circle's cucipop (v1.31 1998/05/13) Sun Jan 28 16:26:14 2001) X-From_: phlady@jump.net Sun Jan 28 16:05:07 2001 Return-Path: <phlady@jump.net> Received: from mail15.jump.net (mail15.jump.net [206.196.91.15]) by mercury.mich.com (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id QAA09103 for <sbmc@mich.com>; Sun, 28 Jan 2001 16:05:07 -0500 Received: from lindac (jump-v90-2085.customer.jump.net [207.8.69.85]) by mail15.jump.net (8.10.2/) with SMTP id f0SL56328826 for <sbmc@mich.com>; Sun, 28 Jan 2001 15:05:06 -0600 (CST) From: "Poor House Lady" <phlady@jump.net> To: "Susan McIntyre" <sbmc@mich.com> Subject: RE: Poorhouse Website Inquiry Date: Sun, 28 Jan 2001 15:03:29 -0600 Message-ID: <NEBBLIGFELEJADFEFAGNIEIBDCAA.phlady@jump.net> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2911.0) X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V5.00.2919.6600 In-Reply-To: <3A7486D7.3345B55C@mich.com> Importance: Normal X-Mozilla-Status2: 00000000 Oh, Susan! Thank you so much for the kind words. I LOVE IT when folks share their personal memories. That's a favorite part of the site...where I post NOTES FROM READERS. I really, really hope that none of those folks who wrote to you are too shy to contact me. I would love hearing from them...and you can (and I hope WILL <grin>)...tell 'em I said so! Thanks, Linda PS If you did that (sharing the link) yesterday...I BELIEVE you! Yesterday was the third highest number of hits we have EVER had on the site in one day. (You must be on a LOT of lists...and folks must believe your recommendations!) I can't figure out any other reason why the count went so high yesterday. (But I don't think very many of them contacted me. Shucks!) PHL -----Original Message----- From: Susan McIntyre [mailto:sbmc@mich.com] Sent: Sunday, January 28, 2001 2:54 PM To: phlady@jump.net Subject: Poorhouse Website Inquiry Hello Poorhouse lady, I wanted to contact you and tell you how much I appreciate your site - it is amazing. I also wanted to let you know that when I first saw your site (posted on the Frederick Co, MD mailing list) I was so impressed that I offered the link to other mailing lists that I belong to, which I have done in the past with other interesting sites. Well, I couldn't believe the response that I got from that simple act of sharing a link. A number of people have contacted me to share their memories of poorhouses and poorfarms in their areas. One gentleman even told of working in the CCC in 1936 at the poorfarm in his area and another gentleman told of his family running the poorhouse in his town. I have been advising these wonderful storytellers to contact you and offer their stories for your site. The 19th century information of course is great and as someone working on their family tree it is greatly appreciated. But while the people who have first hand knowledge of the poorhouses that your site deals with are still alive and willing to tell their stories - I hope that you will continue to offer them a place to share their knowledge with the rest of us. We can all use a lesson in how hard life can be and that we should truly appreciate what we have. Thank you for all your work on your fascinating site.
