Hi - I'm new to this list and am attempting to trace my great grandmother's McIntyre family. Is anyone linked to this family? Any information or guidance would be appreciated. Here's the info I have: Catharine McIntyre b. 8/27/1877 in Ireland (don't know where!). Came to Philadlephia, PA with her sister Sarah McIntyre Fenton. Catharine married Harry Lincoln Powers (b. 1874) of Philadelphia. They lived there and had 3 children: Harry Jr, Frank Leslie and Catharine. Many thanks. Carole
Nothing to do until my kids get here. So thought I'd contribute something. I have known Linda for about a year now. I love the work she is doing and I help to transcribe some things for her. If you find it within your heart and time she is always in need of a volunteer. She is doing a wonderful job and I know how much she appreciates your input and support. With the great people that are on this list I'm sure she will have a wonderful story or two to put up! I also wanted to let you know that when I first saw your site (posted on the Frederick Co, MD mailing list) I was so impressed that I offered the link to other mailing lists that I belong to, which I have done in the past with other interesting sites. Well, I couldn't believe the response that I got from that simple act of sharing a link. A number of people have contacted me to share their memories of poorhouses and poorfarms in their areas. One gentleman even told of working in the CCC in 1936 at the poorfarm in his area and another gentleman told of his family running the poorhouse in his town. I have been advising these wonderful storytellers to contact you and offer their stories for your site. The 19th century information of course is great and as someone working on their family tree it is greatly appreciated. But while the people who have first hand knowledge of the poorhouses that your site deals with are still alive and willing to tell their stories - I hope that you will continue to offer them a place to share their knowledge with the rest of us. We can all use a lesson in how hard life can be and that we should truly appreciate what we have. Thank you for all your work on your fascinating site. Have any of you ever had "older" relatives that complained that they were being driven to the poorhouse by the spending of others in their family? Well, this site has shown up on another mailing list that I belong to and has some very interesting information. http://www.poorhousestory.com/ There are a lot of situations that we with all our modern riches aren't aware of that family could have been placed into a poorhouse - things were pretty rough back then. Well if for nothing else it has some very interesting history to tell. Susan McIntyre
Greetings!! I am currently trying to track down my ggggrandfather Hugh McIntyre. I show him as born in Manitoba, Canada and married to Harriet Amanda Millard. I have no dates. His father, John McIntyre, was born in the Inverness, Scotland area in 1792. He was married to Katharine "Kate" Sutherland. She was b. 1793 Kildonan Parish, Sutherlandshire, Scotland and died 1/17/1866 in Illinois. I show their marriage taking place in 1813 in Manitoba, Canada. If this is ringing any bells for anyone, please respond!!!! Thanks much, Susan Lang
Here are a couple of new sites that are being offered on another list that I belong to. Thought someone else on this list might be able to find some useful information on one of them. Susan McIntyre http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~hughw/files.html http://olivetreegenealogy.com/usa/index.shtml

I am looking for information on a John Davenport McEntire who was born in either Ireland or Escott tsp., Ontario, CanadaJan. 9, 1829 and died in Harlem tsp., Ontario. Any info who be greatly appreciated. Janine
Dear Peter, Thank you for a copy of your informative message of Jan.21 and for prior messages re the different spellings of the name.We had been in prior contact with each other when you kindly responded to me then advising that you could not help me. As you NOW appear to have a new source,Griffith`s CD,which I had not heard of before,I take the liberty of accepting your offer to do some `look-ups` for me. I have not been very active for some time with my research,as I am losing my family at a rapid pace lately. 3 deaths in about 8 months,as I leave tomorrow for England for the funeral of a sister, who once visited County Cavan without much success. I have also lost my brother and his daughter about 2 weeks apart last June. Thoughts of my ancestors have had to take a `back seat` to my `deceased` current family! As I will only be in England till next Sunday,I would be pleased to hear from you on my return if you are able to kindly assist me. My Father`s parents were called Peter McEntyre and Mary A.Tierney, the latter apparently was born around 1858 in Cavan and died in Glasgow,Scotland where my father John A.McIntyre was born in 1888.I have a copy of their marriage certificate showing a date of Apr.3,1880 with the marriage in Baillieborough,County Cavan, though they may have lived in a place called Relaghan in Cavan. My great grandfather apparently was called Bernard McEntyre, but I have no info. on his wife`s name or any dates on them. My great Grandparents on my grandmother`s side were Patrick Thomas Tierney and his wife I believe was a Helen O`Neil, also believed to be from the Baillieborough/Relaghan,Cavan area. As a copy of this message is being circularized, anyone with any comments to offer would be greatly appreciated and I would hope to assist them as my research hopefully continues soon. Thank you for your consideration! Kindest regards! John Alexander McIntyre Toronto,Ont.,Canada

I'm looking for any connections or information for an MCINTYRE marriage to Hannah Helen DUNCKLE BUDD. This marriage would have taken place between 1836 - 1846. Hannah was married to Wesley BUDD, and they had one son named Francis Henry THOMSON. Wesley died. Francis Henry went to live with his aunt and uncle, and was eventually adopted by them. Hannah maried MCINTYRE at some point thereafter. She and her new husband had two sons named John P. and Edward. The marriages may have taken place in New Jersey or New York, but Hannah and her sons eventually lived in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia where she is buried. During the Civil War, John P. MCINTYRE fought with the Georgia Volunteer Guards, and Edward fought with the Oglethorpe Light Infantry. Thank you Peter, for all your work and support in administering this list. I am taking your suggestion and posting the information that I have on my McIntyre line. I am searching for the Father and Mother and birthplace of: JAMES MCINTYRE who was born Abt. 1836, location unknown, and died May 14, 1865 in Williamsburg, NC, during the Civil War. He married MARY EMILY WHALEY November 08, 1859 in Mendon, St. Joseph, Michigan, daughter of JOHN WHALEY and ELIZABETH PORTMAN. She was born February 05, 1843 in Michigan, and died February 28, 1871 in Pawnee City, Pawnee, Nebraska. James' Military service: December 17, 1863, enlisted in 9th Infantry, Company C of the Michigan Volunteers, claiming Pawnee NE as home. The only child of JAMES MCINTYRE and MARY WHALEY was JAMES EDWIN MCINTIER, b. March 11, 1864, Mendon, St. Joseph, MI; d. November 17, 1906, Pueblo, Pueblo, CO. He married DORA V. FREY Abt. 1885, daughter of JOHN FREY and ELIZA KENNEDY. She was born August 18, 1867 in Nebraska, and died March 30, 1951 in Colorado Springs, El Paso, CO. The family had a homestead near Alliance, Nebraska, before moving to Colorado Springs, CO. Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Mike McIntier
John McIntyre (McIntire?), my greatgrandfather, was born somewhere in Indiana about 1821 and migrated as a child or adult to the area of Armstrong County, western PA. Married to Nancy. I am attempting to learn his ancestry, where he lived in Indiana and possibly when he left. Unfortunately no precise location. Ideas welcome and would be happy to hear from professional geneaologists. Bruce McIntyre
