This has been a brick wall for me and others I know. I am descended from (Colonel) David who married Mary (Polly) Dawson in Greene Co, Georgia in 1785, & died in Madison, Morgan Co circa 1827. Our family has always believed that our Macintoshes were descended from Oglethorpe's Macintoshes, but the descendants of Lachlan Mor Macintosh are pretty well documented and no one I know has found a plausible link to them. That David had the title of Colonel might indicate a connection to Lachlan Mor's line (most of them appear to have been military men of senior rank), I suspect there is no relationship. Do you know where Jesse was before Greene Co, i.e. did he migrate to the area from the coast, or he did come down from South Carolina or farther north? I heard from one distant cousin who heard from another distant cousin that the family migrated from Virginia to Georgia. If this is so, it would be a good indication that the family was Scotch-Irish and not Scots, and that maybe we should be looking toward Pennsylvania and not Savannah or Darien for their entry point into North America.
