    1. Re: Your Stephen Deskins who married Anne McIntosh -- Surprises!
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2N0.2ACIB/1358.1.1.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Glenn: To show you how small the world is, when we are doing family history research, let me share a story I have about my experiences these past few days with your Anne McIntosh and her husband Stephen Deskins. I had never heard anything about Anne or Stephen until two days ago, when you sent me the names of the children of John McIntosh and Elizebeth Tollett. On the very same day I got these names from you, I received another email from Lyvonne, who also posted some data on the message boards. Lyvonne sent me the links to three Books indexing, in capsule form, the court proceedings for various days in various years. There is an Entry on Page 63 of the “Russell County, Virginia Law Order Book 3 (1799 – 1808) Part 1" that says the Commonwealth was suing one Stephen Deskins for breach of the peace. There are also other Entries for a Smith Deskins and a John Deskins. Do you have these two names in your database? Lyvonne also found some other interesting tidbits about her ancestors Peter and Nimrod in the Law Records. She said, "By studying the law book carefully I discovered the road where my Peter lived then. I also found that Peter had a "tavern" at the courthouse. The two courthouses associated with the law order books are still standing. The first is a log house and has been restored. I found pictures of both." What do you think about that! Isn’t that quite a coincidence? It really is a small, small, world when we are working on Genealogy, isn’t it? It makes me wonder if our departed ancestors are trying to tug at our coattails from whereever they are! What do you think? Here is the email Lyvonne sent me. Click on the Link for "Russell County, Virginia Law Order Book 3 (1799 - 1808) Part 1." You can easily scroll down to Page 63. There are also a lot of other references to court matters involving Nimrod McIntosh and his father Peter McIntosh. I found the best way to access all these references in the three Books was to go to "Edit," then to "Find" and type in the word McIntosh. Then click on the "Find next" button and it will take you to all the McIntoshes, one-by-one. Enjoy! ___________________________________________________________ Hi Jim & Earlene, My McIntosh line is Peter b abt. 1740's/50 Scotland m. Margaret Peggy Turner. They had a son named Nimrod b.abt. 1801. But in the Russell Co. Va. law order books (late 1700's) there seems to be 2 Nimrods one is the son of Alexander.( Family historians seem to think this Alexander is a brother to my Peter) The other is Peter's brother, also Peter had a brother William. Peter moved to Clay Co. Ky. 1810 census, Peter's brother's, Nimrod & William moved there too. The names Nimrod, William, Thomas, John, & Benjamin are found all through my Mc. line. These are the names of Alexander's sons also. Here is the link for the Russell Co. law books, I hope these links work. I have most of the information contained in these about Nimrod. Let me know if you can't get this link to work. I'm very glad to help; we all need to share, it makes it easier. :) Best regards, Lyvonne McIntosh Helton Indiana ___________________________________________________________ Glenn: I was not able to transfer the three active links to the Russell County Law Order Books to this message. I thought all I would have to do was to copy Lyvonne's email and then paste it into this message board. But it did not work that way for me, so now I have one more thing to learn about = moving active links from one document to another document. Any suggestions????? Sorry about that. However you will see the three inactive links below and you can probably use them to establish some active links online that will help you to access the three Law Books. They are very easy to read. Thank you again for all the information you have given me on the John McIntosh & Elizebeth Tollett family. I assume you do not have any data on John McIntosh, because you did not respond to my questions about him. I would appreciate any information about John which you might find in the future.
