    1. Re: Your Stephen Deskins who married Anne McIntosh -- Surprises!
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/2N0.2ACIB/1358.1.1.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Glenn: To show you how small the world is, when we are doing family history research, let me share a story I have about my experiences these past few days with your Anne McIntosh and her husband Stephen Deskins. I had never heard anything about Anne or Stephen until two days ago, when you sent me the names of the children of John McIntosh and Elizebeth Tollett. On the very same day I got these names from you, I received another email from Lyvonne, who also posted some data on the message boards. Lyvonne sent me the links to three Books indexing, in capsule form, the court proceedings for various days in various years. There is an Entry on Page 63 of the “Russell County, Virginia Law Order Book 3 (1799 – 1808) Part 1" that says the Commonwealth was suing one Stephen Deskins for breach of the peace. There are also other Entries for a Smith Deskins and a John Deskins. Do you have these two names in your database? Lyvonne also found some other interesting tidbits about her ancestors Peter and Nimrod in the Law Records. She said, "By studying the law book carefully I discovered the road where my Peter lived then. I also found that Peter had a "tavern" at the courthouse. The two courthouses associated with the law order books are still standing. The first is a log house and has been restored. I found pictures of both." What do you think about that! Isn’t that quite a coincidence? It really is a small, small, world when we are working on Genealogy, isn’t it? It makes me wonder if our departed ancestors are trying to tug at our coattails from whereever they are! What do you think? Here is the email Lyvonne sent me. Click on the Link for "Russell County, Virginia Law Order Book 3 (1799 - 1808) Part 1." You can easily scroll down to Page 63. There are also a lot of other references to court matters involving Nimrod McIntosh and his father Peter McIntosh. I found the best way to access all these references in the three Books was to go to "Edit," then to "Find" and type in the word McIntosh. Then click on the "Find next" button and it will take you to all the McIntoshes, one-by-one. Enjoy! ___________________________________________________________ Hi Jim & Earlene, My McIntosh line is Peter b abt. 1740's/50 Scotland m. Margaret Peggy Turner. They had a son named Nimrod b.abt. 1801. But in the Russell Co. Va. law order books (late 1700's) there seems to be 2 Nimrods one is the son of Alexander.( Family historians seem to think this Alexander is a brother to my Peter) The other is Peter's brother, also Peter had a brother William. Peter moved to Clay Co. Ky. 1810 census, Peter's brother's, Nimrod & William moved there too. The names Nimrod, William, Thomas, John, & Benjamin are found all through my Mc. line. These are the names of Alexander's sons also. Here is the link for the Russell Co. law books, I hope these links work. I have most of the information contained in these about Nimrod. Let me know if you can't get this link to work. I'm very glad to help; we all need to share, it makes it easier. :) Best regards, Lyvonne McIntosh Helton Indiana ___________________________________________________________ Glenn: I was not able to transfer the three active links to the Russell County Law Order Books to this message. I thought all I would have to do was to copy Lyvonne's email and then paste it into this message board. But it did not work that way for me, so now I have one more thing to learn about = moving active links from one document to another document. Any suggestions????? Sorry about that. However you will see the three inactive links below and you can probably use them to establish some active links online that will help you to access the three Law Books. They are very easy to read. Thank you again for all the information you have given me on the John McIntosh & Elizebeth Tollett family. I assume you do not have any data on John McIntosh, because you did not respond to my questions about him. I would appreciate any information about John which you might find in the future. Elizebeth Tollett will likely appreciate the company! She was all by herself before. I still cannot remember where her name came from, but if I pursue your data, the answers will no doubt show up. Thanks again for your help. Do you have any further information on John McIntosh, the husband of Elizebeth Tollett? Do you have dates and places of his birth and death? Do you know who his parents were, who his siblings were, or who his descendants and/or ancestors were. I have a John McIntosh born in Virginia in 1794, and your John may be his grandfather. I believe my John's father may have been either Nimrod McIntosh or Frank McIntosh. Glenn, do you have a multi-generation descendancy chart and/or ancestry chart for John McIntosh? If you do have these charts, could you please send them to me as attachments to your next posting. This may be the easiest and fastest way for me to get the information you have about John. What do you think? I have a few questions about the names and birthdates of the children you show in your Reply dated 20 Oct 2005, 4:37 PM GMT: 1. You have Rebecca McIntosh born in 1774. Should the birthdate be 1794, since she is the last child you have identified and she comes immediately after Rachell born in 1792? 2. You do not show an Anne McIntosh; whereas in your earlier Reply you show an Anne McIntosh born in 1782 and who married Stepen (should this be Stephen) Deskins. Are Anne and Nancy the same person, since the 1782 birthdate would be the same date you have for Nancy. They are probably not the same person, because you have them as separate persons in your earlier Reply. 3. I do not understand your comment, "Anne married Daily Cm McDonough Co, Illinois." What does the Cm stand for? Is it an abbreviation for the surname of Daily who Anne married? Does the "McDonough Co, Illinois, mean this is where the marriage took place? Do you have a date for the marriage? 4. I do not understand your comment, "Spouse of McIntosh listed below in Surname." 5. You have Nancy McIntosh born in 1785; whereas your earlier Reply shows her birthday to be 1775? Which date should I use? Thank you again Glenn for all your help!

I will assume from your email (1) that you do not know if Jesse McIntosh and John Madison McIntosh were brothers, since you did not comment on that relationship and (2) that you have absolute proof (although not disclosed in your email) that Jesse's father was a Frank McIntosh. Most of the evidence I have also points in this direction, but I have not been able to verify it by any original sources. My condolences to you on the passing of your Aunt = Nancy Spicer who turned 110 years of age on 15 Jan 2005. She was a remarkable woman. Was she still living in Iron River, Michigan, when she died? I was able to speak to her and her daughter Ruth a few years ago, when we were both working on the McIntosh Family History. Nancy's nephew Weldon Joseph McIntosh contacted me about the research I was doing in the Estill County area. Bonnie Urick told him he should contact me, because we were both working on the McIntosh family research and because I had been doing quite a bit of research in Estill County. Both Weldon and Nancy's two grandsons George Allen and Brian James Kassa were delightful genealogists to work with. We exchanged all the recocrds we both had at the time. They were not secretive about their research, but rather were very willing to share it with everyone. Don't you wish more researchers were like that? Is Weldon still alive? He was about 86 years old, when I got his first telephone call on Wednesday, October 18, 2000. He and George Kassa seemed to be very interested in their McIntosh lines. Weldon sent me a handwritten note dated 11-05-2000, which he enclosed with some family group sheets regarding a Weldon Dale McIntosh who was living in Paletine, Illinois, at the time. Weldon Dale was a descendant of John Og McIntosh. In his handwritten note, Weldon Joseph said, "We can't figure out who my great grandfather John McIntosh's father was." If Weldon is still alive, I will call him and let him know that you have proof that the father was Frank McIntosh. If Weldon is not still alive, I will contact George Allen McIntosh Kassa and give him that same information. Do you mind if I tell them you were the source of this information?

Do you know if Jesse had a brother, named John Madison McIntosh who was born in Virginia in 1794? Do you know who Jesse's father was. There are either two Jesses or two conflicting fathers. There is one school of thought that says Jesse's father was a Frank McIntosh born about 1770 in Virginia. There is another school which says Jesse's father was a Nimrod McIntosh. These two groups are about as friendly to each other as the famous "Martins & McCoys!" Each one claims divine inspiration to support their lineage. Do you have any original documents or other materials that would support one or the other of these claims. I certainly do not want to start a Third World War by this question, but you seem to know what you are talking about, because Jesse is one of your direct ancestors. Thank you!
