Hi all, I am interested in speaking to any Mackintosh researchers who have come across a Mackintosh family using the names Mc Coil Van, McAlvain, McIlvain etc. Not having Gaelic myself I understand it effectively means son of Fair Donald. My family were closely connected to the Brodies of Lethen on whose estate they lived throughout the 17th and 18th centuries and whom they served in senior roles e.g. as Factor. The suggestion is that the first of this family was an illegitimate or younger son of a Mackintosh of Mackintosh from Moy and certainly they held high status with children having members of the Brodie, MacPherson of Ballindalloch, Campbell of Cawdor and other related families as witnesses/godparents. They lived mainly in the Ardclach parish of Nairn which of course bounds on the south with Mackintosh lands. I am going to try once again and hope that there is someone who has info on these McIntosh Brothers and their parents. My Greatgrandfather was William Bailey McIntosh, he was born in New York, don't know if state or city. I have tried both looking for a record of him, No Luck!!!!!!Birth date 11 June 1857. He married Isabel (Mary) Elizabeth Robidoux in Renville Co., Mn. 15th of May 1880 by JP. J.T. Brooks. Emma B. Dodge and B.F. Heins were witnesses. Their children were---John Emery, Laura Belle, Ruth Almira and William Oliver. William (Bill) died 18th of June 1924 in Minneapolis,MN. John McIntosh was also born in New York, May 20th 1844. He was in Springfield, Il. in 1865.In 1871 he married Caroline Falkel of Sangamon Co., Il. They then moved to Renville Co., Mn. Where they lived until after Caroline's death, we believe in abt. Dec. 1896. John died in St. Paul, Mn. on March 1st, 1914. They had a daughter, Annie, who married William P. Clynch. If anyone can help me with this, I would very much appreciate it. On William's Death Certificate it says that their Father's name was Angus. I can find no record of an Angus with sons of these names. John's Death Certificate says Mother's Maiden Name was Cunningham. Both were suppose to have come from Scotland to New York. Thanks!
