However, in case you haven't investigated it, there was a John McIntire, spelled with a "tire," who lived in Zanesville, OH sometime in the 1800's. He was a pretty prominent guy there, so much so, that they have a library named after him and quite a bit of history on him. Zanesville is not too far from Indiana and since migration is relatively easy you may find some information there on your James and his father, John.
