It appears on his tombstone as McIntyre. He died in April 17, 1934 -- years before I was born. All I can remember is that he had a sister named Margaret.Since my mother was about 4 or 5 years old when he died, she can barely remember him at all.All she can remember is that he was supposed to have been born in or around Spartanburg, SC maybe in NC next to Spartanburg and that there were a LOT of McIntire/McIntyre relatives in AR. I know that I am definitely related to the John McIntyre/McIntire family in Widner, Ark. I posted on that locality message board with ancestry.com and rootsweb.com but I haven't got a reply from them yet. THat is where they lived in 1973 and I hope there is someone still alive from that family who can help me. There are other McIntire relatives in Lubbock, TX but I don't know if they are still alive either. I once got to see a very old portrait of him. He had American Indian features but my grandmother Turner's mother was American Indian ( Cherokee) and almost all of their children had blue eyes except for my Uncle Gerald ( my mother's older brother and the third child of John and Martha McIntire/McIntyre) who looks just like the late Mexican singer and movie star Javier Solis! But we don't have Mexicans in THAT branch of my family. He had dark hair and a large nose and very small, tight lips. He looked like a fighter. It was rumoured in our family that John McIntire/McIntyre was part Cherokee. He apparently drank a lot and had a very BAD temper. My mother recalled an incident when he beat some children with a buggy whip. There were five surviving children in all. a small boy was stillborn. This is all I can remember. I tried to talk to my Mom but unfortunately she has Alzheimer's and is totally not in contact anymore. My uncle who is the youngest child wonders why I am interested in " all those dead people" and thinks I am a fool, crazy or worse...

George was born in 1875 and died in 1908 in Newport, Ar. I don't know if that's where they were living or not. And I was told that the Black Irish was being really dark skinned(kind of like an Indian) but have light eyes. Margaret's brother had sky blue eyes or so I'm told. Margaret's daughter Maudie Belle was born 7/28/1902 but I don't know where. Any of this ring a bell with you?

Cousin, they could have been also. What gave it away was "Black Irish." That's exactly the words my mother's father used to describe himself. Although I think he looked more like a Cherokee Indian because that is what they have in Spartanburg, SC and thereabouts. I wonder if he was a Baptist too. SOme of the McIntyre/McIntires were Catholic.

The origins of Zachary Taylor McIntyre, I am still seeking. One of her brothers would have been John Wylie McIntire who died in Ladonia, Delta County, TX of a heart attack April 17,1934, that he sustained while he was out fox hunting and his horse came back to the house without him. McEntires I have seen have a history of circulatory problems and such. If any of these names sound familiar, please advise ASAP! I do remember people in my family saying something about Aunt Margaret and the cousins but those folk are unfortunately long gone. And we have had other members of the family who tried to misrepresent their origins and make themselves more exalted. I just want the truth myself. Do you happen to have a photo of Margaret? If she is related to me, the part of Texas where she would have been: Lamar, Delta. Red River, Fannin Counties in Texas... There apparently were McEntire kin in Antlers, OK and in Widner, AR. My McEntire/McIntyre/McIntire/McEntyre search appears to have hit the brick wall and that is a shame because Richard McEntire was one of the earliest settlers of North Central Texas. He married into the Merritt and Stone famillies, old and very distinguished Southern families.

I don't know anyone who is buried at the cemetery you mentioned. None of my family that I know about is buried there. I am related to McIntires and I am currently checking to see if the ones whose tombstones you photographed are related to me somehow. There were a LOT of them in OK, AR, TX and SC and NC!!!! I wasn't aware of ANY restrictions on taking photos in any of the three LAMAR COUNTY, TX cemeteries that I mentioned. In fact, there was only one book written about any of them and that was EVERGREEN. Apparently it attracts cemetery photographers from all over the world. Thank you for your preservation efforts!

My John Wiley McIntyre/McIntire was supposed to have been born in Spartanburg, Spartanburg, SC. Haven't been able to varify it however. He did have a sister named Margaret and maybe some brothers but that's ALL I have been able to find out. His first wife was named Margaret Findley/Findley and I know that we are supposed to be related to "some Wilsons" on that side of the family. If she is John 's sister, her parents are Myrna and Zachary Taylor McIntire/McIntyre and that is how they spelled their last name originally before they came to Texas! McIntyre is how it appears on the tombstone, but as we Southern genealogists already know, spelling don't matter...

He wants proper mail sent to him and then he says he'll call me to come and take the one picture that you authorize. I don't know if he has ever received anyone's permission because he has never called me since he told me the new rules he had set. I trust people until I find out they cannot be trusted. He mistrusts everyone period. His brother died a tragic death, so I assume he feels a lot of guilt about it.

It is called the EVERGREEN Cemetery and it is located in Paris, Lamar County, TX. You definitely have my permission --PLEASE-- to photo all of my wierd relatives elaborate and unusual tombstones. I am related to almost everyone in there. Turners, Smiths, Daughterys, Chisms, Roberts, Binnion, etc. & etc. My Smith family is in Forest Chapel Cemetery in lamar County and my Turner family is in Red Hill Cemetery. My grandmother told me that I am related to EVERYONE in Red Hill Cemetery. That is near Powderly/Bounds, TX. So Of course, you have my permission to click away. My greatgrandfather was James C Turner and my great grandmother is the Nancy C Turner you will see in there. There are a lot of unmarked gravesin there as well. I don't know who the sexton is but the Bounds Baptist Church may have some records. You could prbably do a very nice book. A lady once wrote a book on the Evergreen Cemetery but it is out of print. THANK you so much for caring.

I think this might be my greataunt-- one of my grandfather's sisters. And one of his sons form a previous marriage went to a place called Widener, Arkansas. his name was John also. My grandfather was John Wylie McIntire. He was born, I think in Spartanburg, Spartanburg Co. SC although I have seen records that said he may have been born in the late 1800s and died April 17,1934 in Ladonia, TX. He was buried in the Ladonia City Cemetery, Ladonia TX, Delta County, TX which was once a part of Fannin/Lamar/ Red River County, TX. The son who was in Widener, Ark. might have been the one who lost the 160 acres in Red River County during the 1930's Depression. John McIntire's first wife was named Margaret. I think he married her in Spartanburg Co. SC but we hit a dead end trying to find her. Maybe she came from AK too in the Widener area. Her last name was Finley/Fenley/Findlet/Fendley. I hate these spelling variations in her name. I believe she could have come from AK. I don't know anything about John Wylie's siblings. I know that he claimed to be "Black Irish" but more research of the SC area form where he is repurted to have been born and raised shows me that he was more Cherokee Indian and possibly some Black. He was also reputed to be a member of the KKK and a Catholic. Mutually exclusive, I would think so I don't know which relative to believe. Are your McIntires/McIntyres Catholics? He was either Baptist or Catholic. There existed ONE photo of him and he just looked like an ordinary person. No particuliatly handsome. Someone back in the 1920s had hand colored the photo and that does tend to distort things.... My grandmother, Martha Rose Turner was his second wife. They had six children, one of whom was stillborn and buried in El Nethel Cemetery in an unmarked grave. They were living on the Williams Ranch in what is now Delta County, TX when they were first married. I am looking for all siblings and info about John W.'s first wife and their children. Out of respect to Margaret, my grandmother changed the spelling of the surname to McEntire. But it sounds like the sam e family. I am wondering why my mother never mentioned any of her father's siblings. She was born in 1929 and he died in 1934. Where was your Margaret born? And did she and her husband ever own an auto dealership or had an association with one? It sounds like you could be related to me.
