I am trying to connect John McIntire, the founder of Zanesville who is said to have been born in near old Alexandria and a Robert who lived in Brooke Co VA (1761-1837). I also have a reference from Isaac McIntire (Robert's g grandson) that the family farm was still in operation in 1902. Did your McIntires stay in that area for many generations? Any help you could give me with this would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Janet Currie

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xkz.2ACEB/71.1.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Dear Sir, Thank you for answering my message in the forum. The McIntires I suspected were related to my mother were located around 1900 in Sommervell Co, Texas, near Nemo. The dates were right as the name of Charles McIntire, born in 1877, was listed in the census in 1890 but was not listed with his family in 1900. He showed back up in the census in 1910 and his death was listed in 1917. My mother was told she was born in 1908 and her father disappeared shortly thereafter. He could easily have showed back up in Texas for the 1910 census and would have been 31 when my mother was born. The only drawback is that when I wrote several letters to the remaining family in Sommervell Co. they refused to even acknowledge my letters. I was completely ignored. I have no way of checking further and I find I'm not even interested. If they are related to my mother, and left her with strangers to raise, and then would not even put my mind at ease about the relationship, I choose not to know them anyway. You are a gentleman and I would be delighted to be related to you. Thank you for your letter, my best wishes to you, always. Betty

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xkz.2ACEB/71.1.1.1.2 Message Board Post: Hello Jill, I'm sorry, dear, but those names mean absolutely nothing to me. My mother was told that her mother's maiden name had been Barnes, married to Charles McIntire, and that is absolutely ALL I know. Mom wasn't even sure that she was being told the truth about her parent's names and never discovered one way or the other. The people who raised mother were named Tom and Donie Barber and it seems they were only neighbors to the McIntires and knew nothing about their families. In the years I've been searching, I've been able to find nothing more. The McIntires I found in Texas fit the description but I have no proof and they refused to even deny they were the right family so I know nothing about them either. I wish I could be of some help to you but I can't even help myself. I've found no proof of my mother's birth. Her school records were burned in a court house fire and anyway, she went to school under the name of Evelyn Barber. I can find no census record of Charles and Mary McIntire, or no record of the death of Mary McIntire. After about five years of research, I know nothing more than I knew when I started. I've quit searching, I'm too old to worry about it any more. I wish you more luck than I've had. God bless, Betty

In the same Kentucky Obituaries book there is listed a Hugh Meglone, merchant of Lexington, who died in 1811. My great Grandfather and Great uncle were Hugh Meglone Milton I & II, ! I am almost 100% sure this is who they were named after. Please help! I am out of leads. If any of this looks familiar to anyone, please email me!

John McIntire's farm was 'tomahawked' for four hundred acres but it really consisted of 450 acres. . . . "After the boundary had been fixed John McIntire sent to the government one cent for every acre embraced in his parcel and in return the government gave him a deed for the land. John McIntire sold the land later on to a man named Samuel Wilson because of his desire to move farther west. It was a beautiful farm and is really a historical landmark. On it were interred the remains of the first white person to be buried in that county. The body was that of a young white girl who, having gone to the spring for water, was attacked by Indians, killed and scalped. Her body was found at the base of a white oak tree and was buried where it was found. Since then a graveyard has been established there and is the known to this day as the White Girl graveyard. The tree is still standing but has been dead for several years. The members of the family of Robert McIntire, brother of John McIntire, peacefully sleep in this cemetery." I believe this cemetery is now known as the McIntire-Wilson cemetery and can be found on McCord road. Janet Currie
