Can you email me and let me know what info you have on McIntires from VA???? My address is mountie@charter.net I have been looking for early evidence of McIntires in eastern VA, but have been looking in the Alexandria area. Perhaps I've been looking in the wrong place. My McIntires were in Ohio Co VA by 1786 but know they came from the coast through Fayette Co PA. Any info you have might be of help. Thanks so much for your time, Janet Currie

I've got an old photo of an unidentified young lady probably taken in the late 1800's or early 1900's and on the back of the photo it says: Jas R. MacIntire 2104 Columbia Ave Phila Now I realize the spelling of the last name is not the same as what you are looking for, but thought that if you are like me, a small nudge in any direction is better than sitting still in the water! This picture was with my late mother's things, but it was not with a box of photos but separate. I've tried to do some research on the name and address, too. So far I've little to offer, but do believe that I found a James MacIntire listed as a photographer in the Philadelphia, PA directories. My mother's family lived in Philadelphia, with my first definite "find" dating back to the 1860 cenus - this is a Kingston and Donahue family. Also am leaning towards Shaffer/Schaeffer/Schaffer family of 1850 as the possible parents for my great-grandmother, Amanda Potts. Other names that have come up in my research that are connected - all within Philadelphia from 1860-1900 are Homan, Medcalf, Black, Wright, Thompson, Couslick or Cusick, Tees, Hertens, Dailey. Since I do not know about the girl in the photo, I wondered if any of those surnames have any connection with what you have found on your McIntyres?

The later records should show the birthplace of the person, and if I remember correctly, one year they also had the birthplace of the parents listed. If you can find all the McIntires (and every other possible spelling of the name) in census records from about 1850 or so, see where they may have been from and you may find a migration route that will help you in your search. There were tons of McIntire's in Kentucky, and in the West Virginia area too, so it is very likely they passed through these areas into Indiana. If you can find early birth and marriage records in any Indiana county, that is also a start (marriage records will be easier to find). Since the name Embree is so unusual, he must have been named for someone, so keep your eyes open for that name (even as a surname). Sorry I don't have any McIntire info to pass on to you, I am stuck in my search as well! Good luck!

I have always suspected that his family was from either Mecklenburg and/or Rutherford or at least connected to those families. Recently I found his Revolutionary War pension application to the State of South Carolina. It includes John Mcantire's indenture agreement between John of then of Craven District SC (which abuts the NC state line) and Samuel Knox of Mecklenburg NC for the sum of 500 pound for service in SC militia of 10 months. This SC pension was for John's second service. From his Federal pension file, he enlisted the first time in 1776/1777 in Orange County NC and served in both the 2nd and 3d Georgia Continentals. After the war, he settled in the Pendleton District SC. Around 1824 he moved to Clarksville, Habersham Georgia. He died there around 1835. However, there are many of his children's names that echo those of the NC McIntire's. Also, in abt 1820 there is a Joseph McIntire in Habersham with his son James. Joseph is about the right age to be John's brother. If you have any ideas as to if, or where, he could fit into the Rutherford, Mecklenburg, Orange Co. NC McIntire families please share. I know that it is beleived that some of these families moved south from Halifax Va. Some appear to stop briefly in Orange before later moving to Tryon. I have looked for "missing" descendants of each but have had no luck. Thanks in advance for your replys, Dan
I am looking for any information about Megis Co OH or Mason Co VA/WV McIntires. Many Thanks, Janet Currie
To: ndfan03@attbi.com Sorry I don't have any definitive information on your James W. McIntire. However, in case you haven't investigated it, there was a John McIntire, spelled with a "tire," who lived in Zanesville, OH sometime in the 1800's. He was a pretty prominent guy there, so much so, that they have a library named after him and quite a bit of history on him. Zanesville is not too far from Indiana and since migration is relatively easy you may find some information there on your James and his father, John. Best of Luck, Ron McIntire Descendent of Timothy and David McIntire of Wlton, NH.
