    1. [McFarland] Re: McFarland of PA
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McFarland, McKey Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/FG0.2ACIB/60.504.1.1.1 Message Board Post: I am very much in the dark on the Beaver Co., PA McFarlands. I just found out that my Sarah was from there after finally gaining access to the 1850 census images for PA. Luck was with me in finding them as quick as I did. I have no idea who she might be connected to but since she was born in Ireland, the McFarlands listed that were born in the US certainly would not qualify as her parents but maybe uncles or cousins. There had to be some reason they went to Beaver and having relatives there certainly qualifies. The only other info I have is that of the other McFarlands in Tiverton township, Coshocton Co., OH and the surrounding townships. I would expect to find that John McFarland who lkived very close to John and Sarah McFarland McKey, who is buried in Tiverton Cemetery (1809-1881), is Sarah's younger brother. Census records indicate he and his wife were also born in Ireland so if they are siblings, their emigration had to occur after his birth. Any parent that would have been listed in the census records for Beaver would have to show a birth in Ireland or Scotland. I hope to find someone with access to the Salem Presbyterian Church records that served South Beaver and Ohio townships. It or perhaps one of the other churches in the vicinity may hold some clues. It would have to be a marriage record as their baptisms probably took place in Ireland. Do you know where in Ireland Samuel came from? It might help in locating them. I found a few possibles in Antrim, Ireland but without much else to go on, there is no way to tell for sure. One thing that does suggest a connection to the William McFarland I previously mentioned is that in the census records in Tiverton for John McFarland it says his oldest daughter was born in Ireland (Margaret 17 in 1860) but the next one was born in Canada (Mary 16 in 1860.) That would mean they came to Canada about 1844. The folowing children were born in Ohio and since Sarah's childen were all born in PA then perhaps if Sarah and John are siblings, then that would have been the reason they went to Ohio. Just guessing here but John's family's route through Canada does sound very much like William McFarland's family that shows up in the 1850 census in Beaver. If Sarah, John and William are siblings then it could be that the parents never came with them to America and perhaps they stayed in Canada or never left Ireland. If a record can be found for William's marriage, perhaps his parents are mentioned. The same goes for Sarah but perhaps the marriages took place in Canada and that is why we are having such a problem finding them. When you can't find any records you really start getting creative. Thanks for the reply and if I do found any more records on them in Beaver I will certainly post them here. Denny
