My McFarland and Wood families were there since very early 1800's and the name McFarland was spelt according to the mood of the day, I suppose. I have seen McFarlin,MacFarlan, McFarlan, McFarlane, MacFarlane Mac Farland Mc Farland and so forth. The name of George Washington McFarland keeps ringing bells in my head but I can not find any records or notes on him in my files. My absolute for a fact ancestors were James C. McFarland and his son John Wesley McFarland and Elizabeth Adkins, their son Alexander Miller born in 1837 married Susanna C. Wood in 1859 and then after the birth of their first child and before the Civil War they moved to Indiana. James C. had about 4 wives and I would give a big "Yankee Dime" to anyone who could name which child belonged to which mother. As it was he married a woman with children already he gave them his name too. At least that is what it looks like to me. With John Wesley, mostly known as Wesley, I am not sure if his mother was Rebecca, Elizabeth or Caroline Rule. Rule is the only name I am really sure about and the other 3 names maybe one person. But like I said before, George Washington McFarland, keeps setting off the bells in my head. I keep looking at what I do have and find nothing. I may have lost something vital in my first efforts of research gathering a few years ago. Susie McFarland Lemin
