Surnames: MacFarland McFarland Adams Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FG0.2ACIB/1084 Message Board Post: I'm researching my maternal roots and although the current spelling used is MacFarland, my mother confirmed with me that the name was originally McFarland. This is what I've surmised so far, and I don't have document validations for many of these theories: My ggggrandfather was Robert McFarland who came with his wife Jane to the US from Ireland on the Waltron which arrived on 13 April 1849. The ship departed from Belfast and arrived in New York. My gggrandfather, William McFarland, was born on the ship. William McFarland had two brothers born in New York: R. H. (Robert Jr.) McFarland, and John McFarland. William McFarland married Virginia Vreeland in New York and they lived i Jersey City, NJ. William passed away between 1880 and 1891 and Virginia remarried her brother-in-law John McFarland around 1901. William and Virginia had three children: Eva MacFarland Adams, Harvey Warren MacFarland, and Grace MacFarland. Harvey was my ggrandfather. Harvey married Adelaide Hillman and they had one son, my grandfather, Arnold Hillman MacFarland. R. H. McFarland, William McFarland, and John Adams (husband of Eva) were in the printing industry, and John was a baker. Harvey and Adelaide were employed at the Norwich State Hospital for the Insane in Connecticut. Arnold started out as a carpenter and eventually work for Connecticut Power and Light. Are there any other McFarland or MacFarland researchers that have family in the New York, New Jersey, and/or Connecticut areas?
