I never could get the connection of Barney P., and now it still is confusing unless Barnabas practiced a little infidelity. The 1850 Knox Co. census shows Mary A., age 61, born VA, and Mahala, age 29, born VA both living in Barnabas' household. Mary very well could be the mother of Barnabas, and Mahala may be "Haly" in the 1860 Census of the Mary McFarland residence, and she may be the mother of Barney P.. I know that the wife of Barnabas, Sarah Ann Mitchell, was still alive in 1856 when Barney P. was born. My g-grandmother, Martha Emaline McFarland, was born to them in 1857. You are a great help.
