This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: McFARLAND, DURFEE, CHURCH, FRANKLIN (maybe TAILOR/TAYLOR?) Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FG0.2ACIB/1065 Message Board Post: My major brick wall is my g g grandmother Martha Adeline McFARLAND b. 17 Jan 1852 Belleville, St. Clair Co, IL d. 12 Jan 1933 Monroe Co, IL m. Nathan S. DURFEE on 21 Mar 1869 Monroe Co, IL. No additional info is known from their marriage documents. On Martha's death certificate the informant was her son-in-law John ALLEN, and he wrote for her father "don't know, b. don't know" and for her mother "--- CHURCH (or CHINCH?), b. VA". Martha's obituary provided no info on her parents. >From the book "The Descendants of Thomas Durfee of Portsmouth, R.I." by William R. Reed, her father was George McFARLAND and mother was Mrs. Cynthia McFARLAND. A George McFARLAND married a Senda FRANKLIN on 20 Dec 1849 St. Clair Co, IL. The 1850 Belleville, St. Clair Co, IL census lists: McFARLAND, George 50 M Carpenter b. TN Syntha A. 43 F b. VA FRANKLIN, Jane 16 F b. IL Silas 11 M b. IL Isaac 8 M b. IL So far, I have been unable to locate George or Senda/Syntha A. McFARLAND on any other census, but found whom I believe to be my Martha on the 1860 Red Bud, Monroe Co, IL census: TAILOR, Alozo(Aloso?) 43 M b. MA Lucind 46 F b. TN FRANKLIN, Silas 21 M b. IL Jos 17 M b. IL McFARLAND, Martha 9 F b. IL Martha is listed with her husband Nathan on the 1880 Monroe Co, IL census which lists her father b. VA, mother b. KY. On the 1900 Monroe Co, IL census, her father is listed as b. IL, mother b. IL. On the 1920 St. Clair Co, IL census her father is listed as b. KY, mother b. KY. I'm not sure how or if this fits in, but found this entry on the 1860 Prairie du Rocher P. O., Monroe Co, IL census: CHURCH, Lewis 28 M Farmer b. IL Virginie 28 F b. VA Ausilla 5 F b. IL William 3 M b. IL FRANKLIN, Silas 21 M Laborer b. IL Appears Silas FRANKLIN was in Red Bud in the same household as Martha on 22 Aug and in the household of Lewis CHURCH on 25 Aug, 1860. Is Lewis CHURCH possibly related to Martha's apparent mother ---- CHURCH(CHINCH?)? Does any of this sound familiar to anyone researching the McFARLANDS? Jan Heiskell acc10@mindspring.com
