He was born in either Tennessee or Kentucky. They were married such a short time before he died and I haven't been able to find anything about him. My grandparents, Joseph Jordan Taylor and Eliza Elender McFarland are buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery in West Plains, MO. Would appreciate if you would let me know if you can find a connection. What are the dates for your great grandfather? Thanks, Millie

In the 1850 the first wave of McFarland's settled in East Texas, Smith, and surrounding counties. My McFarland's didn't arrive until the mid to late 1880's in Smith County. Although I had other relations that had been there for at least 2 or more generations. (Carter, Snodgrass, and Hinshaw) I am looking for connections in the families.. I believe my orginial Alexander McFarland actually came from Pennsylvania,to North Carolina, and then Tennessee. Tennessee is where my great grandfather, Alexander Miller McFarland was born and his wife, Susannah C. Wood. They left Tennesse late 1860-1861 and spent the Civil War in Indiana, then on to Wisconsin for a few years, moved on to Iowa and had the rest of their children before settling in Flint, Smith County, Texas. Some of the North Carolina McFarland son's moved to Kentucky, Missouri and maybe Georgia. If any of this sounds familiar or you would like to see if we have a personal connection please eamail me directly and/or post a message here. Susie McFarland Lemin

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Beck, Booth(e), Burroughs, Chambers, Channell, Crowson, Graham, Gross, Hodo, Jaco. Kelly, McAllister, Turner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/FG0.2ACIB/977 Message Board Post: I'm trying to pinpoint the parents of my gg-grandmother Betsy Jane McFarland, whose full name could be Elizabeth Jane McFarland. Her death certificate states that her parents were Jim McFarland and Sudie Smith, but another researcher lists her parents as John Johnson McFarland and Melinda Griffin. The death certificate states that both Jim McFarland and Sudie Smith were born in Alabama. The informant listed in the death certificate was Betsy Jane's son, J O Chambers, whose full name was James Oliver Chambers. Betsy Jane McFarland Betsy was born March 09, 1852 Perry Co., Alabama and died January 18, 1946 in Maplesville, Chilton Co., Alabama. She was buried at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Maplesville, Chilton Co., Alabama on January 30, 1946. Betsy married James Thomas Chambers in Perry Co., Alabama on September 03, 1868. James Thomas Chambers was born October 06, 1848 in Chilton Co., Alabama, died June 30, 1939 in Maplesville, Chilton Co., Alabama and was buried at Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, Maplesville, Chilton Co., Alabama on July 02, 1939. James was the son of Israel Franklin Chambers and Mary Ann Doss. There is a marriage index listing for a James McFarland and Rosanah Smith who were married on October 24, 1842 in Perry Co., Alabama. This might be Jim and Sudie McFarland; however, the 1860 Census of Perry Co., Alabama, Brush Creek Beat, Brush Creek P.O., page 529 lists a James J McFarland and wife Rosa, but James's birthplace is listed as South Carolina - not Alabama. Also, there is no Elizabeth or Betsy Jane listed in the household. In the 1860 Census Perry Co., Alabama, Pinetucky Beat, Pinetucky and Oakmulgee P.O., Pg 649 there is a John McFarland and wife Malinda listed. Both are listed as being born in Alabama and in the household is a daughter Elizabeth J who is 8 years old, born 1852 - which matches the birth year of Betsy Jane McFarland. Can anyone help me solve the mystery? Does anyone have a list of Jim McFarland and Sudie Smith's children? Could James Oliver Chambers been mistaken about his grandparents in the death certificate for Betsy Jane McFarland? Richard Graham OKC
