My ggggf was Asa Cyrus McFarland, b. before 1775 in VA, we think, but he first shows up in Frederick Co, VA in 1810 census. Indications are that he may have had a brother named Ralph, who was a son of another Ralph. I have seen the Dr. Carmen Finley research, and she doesn't make a definitive connection for Asa and Ralph at this time. But maybe someone has an Asa Cyrus in their database that would knock down my brick wall.

The earliest known McFarland/McFarling in our line was Asa Cyrus, who died in OH 1839. One of his sons was named Cyrus Asa . Also in my database is Cyrus Alexander, Cyrus Benton, Cyrus Russell and 5 other Cyrus A's. It's a trick keeping them straight! I didn't recognize any of your names, but I do know that my gggrandfather came from Morgan Co, OH through IL (where one child was born, so he must have stayed awhile there) and settled in Louisa Co, IA for about 15 years before finally settling in Davis Co, IA. If you ever run across the name Asa Cyrus McFarling/McFarland anywhere-on a tax list, marriages or such, please return to this site and let me know. I can't take this man back any farther than 1810 where he is in Frederick Co, VA census-but several other McFarlands are on tax lists in the 1780's and 90's in VA, who may be related.

This was my grandfathers and ggfathers (b.1871) name except that the middle name was Omar. One of ggfathers uncles was named Cyrus McBurney McFarland(b1838). This line is from Juniata county, Mexico, Pennsylvania to Bureau county, Illinois. Cyrus's parents were Matthew (b.1806) and Margaret Dysinger McFarland.
