Rachel McFarland married Asa D Knox in Vermilion County Illinois on 04/14/1880. John married again to Henrietta Catlin, they had three daughter, one died, and I believe it is Emma, and Dora who lived and Ella Died. Some say he married in-between first and second wife to Rachel Oxford's sister Elizabeth but I have not researched that yet, who may have actually been the first wife. Very confusing and I have not got that far yet. I have more information on this line of the McFarland's.

McFarland. I'm sorry to inform you we lost my dad last year. Have fond memories of grandpa "Eddie". He always reminded me of James Cagney! Grandpa Eddie adopted my dad, from his marriage to Millie Dell Blake. From what I understood grandpa's sister, Lena Bell lived her life near where George & Minnie raised them? Have the newspaper clipping where George was struck & killed by a train. Never knew anything of my great grandmother Minnie, but would love to! Have older photos of grandpa Eddie but none of George or Minnie. Would love to have more info, but I don't have that much info to share. Will respond to your letter asap. Thank you so much

Much information on this family contained therein. Thought I would just share. Pension copies thanks to Karen Kane. Originally Greenberry's mother Martha Jane had obtained a pension. After her death, Arthur reapplies for himself. AFFIDAVIT FOR PENSION 30 APRIL 1898 Case of Arthur J. McFarland State of Kentucky County of Metcalfe On this the 30th day of April 1898 personally appeared before me a Notary Public within and for the County and State aforesaid, A.J.McFarland age 78 years who being duly sworn according to law makes the following declaration in order to obtain the pension provided by act of Congress providing pension for dependent fathers. The he is the father of Greenberry McFarland who enlisted under that name at Camp Hobson Ky. Dec 21st 1861 in the 13th Ky Vol Infantry and who died in the Army on the 7th day of April 1862. At the time he died he bore the rank of a private in said Army and the Said Son Green B McFarland left neither widow or son and having never married nor any children surviving him that the Declarant herein was married to the mother of said son at or in Whitley County Kentucky, on or about the 7th day of August 1840, John Henderson, minister officiating. The he was about wholly dependent on said Son for a support. The mother of said son died at home in the County of! Metcalfe and State of KY on the 17th day of April 1898. There were surviving at the deat of said son, his brothers and sisters who were under 16 yrs of age as follows: J.(James) G. McFarland born March 10, 1847 P. A. (Polly Ann) McFarland born July 29, 1851 (Joel) Anderson McFarland born June 20, 1853 Joseph (M) McFarland born Dec 21st 1860 John McFarland born Dec 21st 1856 S. (Steven) A. McFarland born August 26, 1838 Benjamin (Willis) McFarland born June 4, 1863 W. (William) M. McFarland born July 20, 1865 but 4 of whom are now dead. (James G, Joel Anderson, Joseph M, and John). That he has not heretofore received a pension but the mother of said soldier received a pension up the date of her death. No. 271580 as deponent mother. That he has neither aided nor abetted the Rebellion. That he hereby appoints J.W. Compton of Edmonton Ky. ...........the above claim. That he resides in the County of Metcalfe and State of Kentucky and that his post office address is Edmonton Ky. A.J. (his x mark) McFarland Attest: C. B. Pendleton J. R. Wilson DEPOSITION FOR PENSION Case of Arthur Jackson McFarland No.675671 On this 12th day of November 1902, near Edmonton, County of Metcalfe, State of Kentucky, before me James P. Fritts, Special Examiner of the Pension Office, personally appeared Arthur J. McFarland, who being, by me being first duly sworn to answer truly all interrogatories propounded to him during this Special Examination of aforesaid pension claim, deposes and says: I am 82 years old. I was 82 years old on the 19th day of las January. My Post office address is Edmonton, Metcalfe Co., Ky. I live 4 miles north of my Post Office. I am not able to do any kind of labor. I live with my youngest son William McFarland. I am the identical person claiming a pension as the father of Greenberry McFarland, my oldest son, who was a soldier in the late civil war, in Co. C,13th Regiment, Ky Volunteer Inf. He died in the Army. I don't know where he died. I understood he died in Nashville Tenn. in 1862. He had never been married. He was only about 19 years old when he went in the Army. I don't know the exact date my said son was born. I have no private record showing the date he was born. I had my house burned about 8 or 9 years ago and if I had a private record it was destroyed. I was never married but once. My wife's maiden name was Martha Jane McFarland. She was my cousin. We were married in Whitley Co Ky., near Woodbine in said county. We had a license to marry which I procured from the County Court Clerk at Williamsburg, Whitley Co. Ky. Joseph Craig was the Deputy Clerk from whom I got the license and .....on my bond. I guess he is dead. He was older than I was. We were married by John Henderson, a preacher now dead. We were married at Preacher Henderson's house on Big Laurel River,Whitley Co. Parties who were present at our marriage were, the preacher, his wife, son and daughter. Joseph McFarland, John McFarland , Ahart Hash, they are all dead. I don't know the exact date we were married. I think it was about 1840. We mark it of August. I have no private record showing when my wife and I were married. I have been unable to furnish a public record of our marriage. I have a letter written to the County Clerk of Whitley Co. Ky. requesting him to furnish a certified copy of our marriage. He answered saying he had carefully searched the marriage records of said county and had not been able to find any record of our marriage. He said he found a Bond for a license but he was unable to find where the marriage license had been returned. I don't know......was where said letter is which was received from said Clerk. It is my impression that the preacher John Henderson, who married us, never returned the license. I don't think the Court House in Whitley Co. Ky has ever been burnt. If the license was never returned by the preacher who married us it looks to me that .............. for the license ought to be found in the clerk's office. My wife, the mother of the soldier, and I, lived together continuously for the time we were married until she died, April 17, 1898. She died in this house. The soldier Greenberry was our first child. We were living in Whitley Co. Ky when he was born. We had been married about two years when he was born. There are no one living who were present when he was born. My mother was the midwife. She has been dead many years., Q.) Whe are now living by whom you can prove that the soldier was born while you and his mother were living in wedlock? A.) The only person I know by whom I can make this proof is Martha Sutton. She is a widow, if living. The last I know of her she was living at Corbin, Whitley Co, Ky. I haven't heard from her in the last six years. The soldier lived at home with us up to the time he went in the Army. My wife, the soldier's mother, was pensioned as the mother of said soldier at time of death. I can prove by plenty of people that the soldier's mother and I lived together as husband and wife from the time the soldier was .... all up to her death. ATTEST: Henry McFarland Arthur (his x mark) J. McFarland Deponent Sworn to and subscribed before me this 12th day of November 1902, and I certify that the contents were fully made known to deponent before signing. Jas.
