Just wanting to compare notes here and see if there is any possible match on our Sarahs. My Sarah Elizabeth McFarland was married to a McFarland (whose name I do not currently know). They lived in PA. I don't know anything about being adopted although there is a strange play in my oral history of the name COOK somewhere in there that I have never understood. My Sarah Elizabeth McFarland's daughter Carolyn Josephine married Evan Watkins and both of them died leaving their 5 children orphaned. My Grandfather was 5 at the time of his parents death and Sarah Elizabeth McFarland raised all the children. This was all in or around Titusville, PA. I never could get the connection of Barney P., and now it still is confusing unless Barnabas practiced a little infidelity. The 1850 Knox Co. census shows Mary A., age 61, born VA, and Mahala, age 29, born VA both living in Barnabas' household. Mary very well could be the mother of Barnabas, and Mahala may be "Haly" in the 1860 Census of the Mary McFarland residence, and she may be the mother of Barney P.. I know that the wife of Barnabas, Sarah Ann Mitchell, was still alive in 1856 when Barney P. was born. My g-grandmother, Martha Emaline McFarland, was born to them in 1857. You are a great help. In the 1860 Knox Co census, Barnabas is listed on page 0011. A few properties away on page 0010 is a Mary McFarland age 72 b)VA. (maybe his mother) Also in the household is a Haly(sic) (The handwriting of this census taker is terrible so I am guessing on the name spelling) age 40. Also listed is a Preston, age 4(b 1856). At another site, there is a Barney Preston b)1856 listed as the son of Barney McFarland.
