I just rechecked the Brooklyn City directories for the McElroy living at 349 Van Brunt Ave in the 1880s. Found Dennis listed twice, 1886/1887 and 1887/1888 publications. This is where I found Daniel living in both the 1870 and 1880 census with his Sister Margaret Rooney and Susan Donnelly (Anns sister). Also Daniel listed that address when he witnessed Bernards Nat. in 1886. So I'm convinced that for whatever reasons, Daniel often used Dennis. ?????? This also indicates the Dennis I found arriving on the (correct ship) Tapscott in Aug of 1887 (Irish to america FTM CD), is probably Daniel. From now on I will always search and list both first names.
