Margaret McElroy-Rooney is the sister of Daniel and Bernard McElroy, all from Ireland in the 1850s. They came from the border of Monaghan and Fermanagh. Thanks to both my cousin Edward McElroy and fellow Irish/NYC researcher Charles Sullivan, today I had another breakthru on my McElroy NYC family. I found Terrance Rooney (28) in the 21st Ward 1860 census living with his wife Margaret McElroy-Rooney (29), their son Edward (5), daughter Margaret (3). Icing on the cake, living with them was James McElroy, likely another brother of Margaret, Daniel and Bernard. I already had found Margaret and kids in both the Brooklyn 1870/1880 census. Terrance disappears by the 1870 census. He had no Pension Index for the Civil war. He fathered Robert the youngest, before 1867. So he died or left between 1866-1869. From past experience, NYC civil marriage records give more parental info on the bride and groom. All I know is their oldest was 5 in 1860. I will next search for BOTH their Civil Likely in USA NYC in possible marriage index records. I will also write the nearest Catholic Church to the corner of 39th St and 2nd Ave, where they lived in 1860, I will also look to St Gabriel records now at church of the Sacred Hearts on 307 E 33st. They sent me Bernard's marriage in 1868 from St Gabriels while he lived at 301 E 37th St. I will also request baptism records for both their children Edward and Margaret. Lower priority research will be Terrance's death, James MCelroy in City directories 1960s and 1870 census! , I have the FTM CD Irish to America 1846-1865. It is by no means perfect, but I'm cross referencing both Margaret McElroy and Rooney with Terrance Rooney, to see if they came over together. The purpose of this research is to determine where these McElroys came from in Ireland. My only success was finding Daniel listed twice in the Emigrant Savings bank records in 1864 and 1867. In both entry's he listed the same address, the same parents as Bernard, his same boat and year, but listed two different Counties, Fermangh and Monaghan. I will soon revisit the Emigrant Savings Bank Index on four more people. Terrance Rooney, Margaret Rooney, James Mcelroy and Robert MCelroy. Any Rooneys or McElroys out there that can help?
