Archibald Blackes. Wit.: Wm. Blewett, John Lilly, Darby Caves (>O) > Note that in the introduction to From Anson Co., NC, Deed Abstracts, 1749-1766, Abstracts of Wills & Estates, 1749-1795, Brent H. Holcomb states . . . Before the Mecklenburg Co. and the S.C. border surveys, Anson Co. included all or parts of the SC counties of Marlboro, Chesterfield, Lancaster, York, Chester, Cherokee, Union, Spartanburg, Greenville, Laurens, and Newberry. There are 9 references in the above book to land transactions which involved JAMES MUCKLEROY. I believe the same property is being referenced in the deed abstract below from South Carolina Deed Abstracts, 1776-1783, Books Y-4 through H-5, Abstracted by Brent H. Holcomb. p. 88 - B-5, 274-275: Lease and release. SC. 17 & 18 May 1776. Joseph Buffington late of Tryon Co. NC but now of SC to John Neufville, Wm Gibbes, Peter Bacot, Esqs. Trustees . . . 50 acres on Lawsons Fork being a branch of Packolet R. in 96 Dist in this colony, being the eastward part of 350 acres originally granted to James Mackelroy per plat of the same to the release thereof from said James Mackilroy to the said Joseph Bufington 13 April last past, also 1000 acres on Rich Land Creek (a branch of Pacolet) adj. land laid out to Arthur Crocket, David Lewis, John Golight, William Wofford, Esqr., originally granted to Thomas Fergusson, Esqr, 21 Apr 1775. Joseph Buffington (LS). Wit: James Mayes, John Thomas. Proved 3 June 1776 by the oath of John Thomas before Ralph Smith, J.P. of 96 Dist. Rec: 13 Sept 1779. I think the James Mackelroy referred to in the above deed abstracts and also in deed abstracts in South Carolina Deed Abstracts, 1783-1788, Books I-5 through Z-5, Abstracted by Brent H. Holcomb is the same person. He was married to DINAH (maiden name unknown as far as I know). From his will (which I posted somewhere on the internet on a McElroy board), we know his daughter Rachel married John BLASSINGHAM, daughter Frances married ?? BLASSINGHAM, daughter Abigail married ?? BEARDEN, daughter Esther married Isaac BOGAN, daughter Mary married Peter RENTFRO, daughter Sarah married ?? BRATCHER, daughter Comfort married ?? GLEATON. If anyone else believes they descend from this line, please contact me. Jacque
