We have had a very quiet Summer. We have had many new people join our list. I think it is time to share our McElroy interest with other subscribers. Our Roll Calls are not like those on other lists though because we don't just throw out names. We ask that you provide as much information as you can. If the name is all that you can provide, at least give us a time frame in which your ancestor lived and the general area in which you believe he or she lived, was born, died, or was married. Maryann Dixon Moseby McElroy List Admin.
James MCELROY and Sarah MCCUNE came to America in 1729. I descend through their son, Archibald, born 1730, Bucks Co., PA. He was married to Ann ASTEN. Their son, John, and his son, John (Wesley?) born January 21, 1777, in VA continues my line. This John married Elizabeth JAMISON, daughter of James JAMISON, and their son, James Jamison McElroy, was my great grandfather. Jamison was born April 10, 1811, in Yancey Co., NC. He married Margaret Saphronia WEAVER in 1841 in Buncombe Co., NC. Their fourth child, Jacob Silas, was my grandfather. He was born September 11, 1850, in Yancey Co., NC. Jamison and Saphronia moved their family fom Madison Co., NC to Boone Co., AR in 1870. Jacob married Sarah Elizabeth YORK in 1877 in that county. In 1888 Jacob moved his family to TX, living first in Bosque Co and also Erath Co. Elizabeth died in 1895 and was buried at Huckaby, TX in Erath Co. She left Jacob with six children. My dad, Lester Lafayette (L L) McElroy was about seven years old when she died and their were two younger than him.My dad married Ella Jane MCKINNEY. This is a brief outline of my tree from the immigrants to myself, Dortha McElroy Greenlee. I have been trying to determine if Esther MCDOWAL(McDowell) the mother of James McElroy and the wife of Hugh MCILROY, if she is a sister of Ephriam MCDOWELL, who traveled with the McElroys, McDowells, Campbells, McAlreaths, and at least one James GREENLEE, on their trip to America. I know some think this is true. I would like to have proof of that relationship. I will be glad to exchange information on this family.
