I did not see Browne McElroy (or other spelling) in Family Adventures of John Mackelroy of Baltimore County, Maryland 1690-1983, by David V. Muckleroy. I also did not see Browne McElroy in Tom McLeroy's book. There area McElroys (and other spellings, mostly McLeroy) who lived in Sumter Co., AL who were descendants of William McElroy, son of John and Francis. Most of those folks were called Scotch-Irish. Most of the folks who came over who were called Irish came later - more nearly in the 1880s. This is what I have found, but I'm sure there are a lot of exceptions.
