----- Original Message ----- From: <Jeraldinep@aol.com> | Why aren't their names on the S.S.D.I , there is a lot of information there | too? What would keep their names off the S.S.D.I.? I can't find, Brown | McElroy, Willie McElroy, Eliza McElroy, and all these people died in the | 1940's.So their names were kept off for some reason. I'm wandering if you're allowing this race/ethnic issue to interfere with some serious research? It's seems just about every family has the story of a Native American somewhere in one of their lines or someone got mad at someone and changed the spelling of their name when they got to Ohio. Perhaps this could be set aside for the time being. I've seen several of your postings regarding your McElroy line and your inability to locate any information for your grandfather. My McElroys never went south of the Mason Dixon line, so I'm certain we aren't related. However, I share your frustation in not being able to find information on an ancestor only two generations back. I think you MAY be looking for the wrong information. When I began my research years ago, I had very little difficulty with both my grandmother's lines, however, I was immediately stumped on both my grandfathers lines. It took a long time to find out that both of my grandfathers went by their middle names. When I found their correct first names, I immediately found all sorts of records and documentation. I could be way off base with this, but could it be that Browne was not his given name? I wonder if it's a middle name or nickname?? Have you obtained your father's death certificate showing his father's full name? What about your grandfather's cemetery stone and death certificate? or perhaps your grandmother's death certificate showing her husband's name? Is there another initial or name on his cemetery stone besides Browne? What about obits for your father, grandfather and grandmother? Somewhere I think you're going to find another name besides Browne. Regards, Marc Whetsel
