I promised I would identify this McElroy in the query to the list. Please forgive me for being "generic" in my naming. I chose Mackelroy (the name mostly given for John in Baltimore Co. about 1713) for his descendants. I use Muckleroy for the descendants of his son Archibald through his son Avington. My Texas McElroys are spelled Muckleroy, but some are kin. If I were searching, since Lampasas Co. is not one of the more heavily settled counties, I would go to the closest place that has Lampasas microfilm and search for all the McElroy families on the 1920 census in Lampasas, starting with the precincts that sound familiar. Or wait for the 1930 census for the Lampasas area? Or go to the Lampasas Website and post a query. I'd also look for death certificates at the courthouse in the area near where they lived. Or cemeteries, funeral homes, or obituaries in local newspapers. Texas census are also available by area and can be shipped/mailed from the area repository near Lampasas Co. to your area repository for a small fee. Or order from an LDS Library or Ancestry.com - for a larger fee - has census records viewable on line through 1920.I have not found that all are indexed so just because one doesn't show up doesn't mean it isn't there. Genealogy is like Real Estate - Location, Location, Location. Also - messages are easier to read typed in lower case.
