I do have this family on my database, but I don't have them connected to anybody else and I don't have any dates on them. I kept this because of the similarity of names to my family. =========== Frances - wife of John - our oldest ancestors that we know of Rachel - oldest daughter of this family William- 2nd son in family Archibald - 3rd son in family We think, but are not positive there was a James who married a Ruth as a son in this family. He was probably born about 1723. He lived near our Old John and Frances in Craven and or Johnston Co., NC. He is mentioned for sure in any of my other records. I am just always watching to see if he turns up anywhere. Of course those are all common enough names. The fact that he was called Muckleroy at one time and was a Blacksmith make it worth looking at. My Archibald, son of John and Frances was a Gunsmith. He sounds like one of ours. Blacksmiths run in the family. I don't remember anyone who lived in Anson. Most of ours were in Craven, Johnston, and Wake, although there were others. This James Muckleroy would have to have been over 21 to own land so he would have to have been born before 1736. We have a James born about 1723. I'll see who else it could have been on my line. Your editor and the RootsWeb HelpDesk have received hundreds of messages lately from researchers fearful that RootsWeb is sending out these worm- infested attachments. Relax. The virus is not coming from RootsWeb or via any RootsWeb mailing list (which do not allow attachments anyway). It is being sent to you privately by the infected computer (often without the owner's knowledge), with a forged "From" e-mail address and with all sorts of subjects lines, which Klez also steals. There are several ways Klez can obtain your e-mail address: --It may be in the sender's address book. --The infected computer may find an unread message from you in someone's inbox. --It may appear on a webpage that is cached on the infected computer. --It may appear in an old e-mail message that is stored on the infected computer. Depending on where Klez finds your e-mail address, it may use the subject line or copy part of a post in an attempt to appear to be a legitimate message. Tom McLeroy (now deceased) of your line had a good bit to say about the Sugars or Suicher (meaning Sugar) line. If you have not had access to his book, I may be able to send you a copy of the pages from his book regarding this. Unfortunately, I'm having computer problems so can't send you the scanned page/s, although I can later. Send me your address at jstokes@houston.rr.com and I will mail them to you. In return for this, could you e-mail me descendants of Charles (b. abt. 1820) and Mary Ann T. Wright (b. abt 1820), married 27 Dec 1842 Fayette Co., GA? I have their children, Thomas (b. abt 1842), James Edward (b. 4 Jun 1848), Charles (b. abt 1849), John (b. abt 1854), Mary (b. abt 1856), Pelletia (b. abt. 1858). I don't have who they married or their children. If I'm wrong on the above, I would appreciate corrections. The names and connections are so similar. I have 2 similar lines, but different linkages. Perhaps we could compare those bits of information. For instance, I don't have Thomas, but I do have James Edward, son of Charles. But I have him as son of Edward and Polly. Edward is the son of John and Rebecca while Mary is the daughter of Henry and Pelletiah. I have 2 John As and 1 John Allen. None of them fit. I'm not sure, but the the prounciation of Suicher may be Sue cher. Someone who speaks French would come nearer knowing. Hi Rodney ( and others on this list ), Rodney, I saw your mention of McKelroys in Cherokee Co., AL. That reminded me that I saw a McKelroy grave in a cemetary located on I-65 just barely south of Priceville, AL. Priceville is located near Cullman Co., possibly in Morgan Co. A quick check of the map would let you know. While I have not checked into the whereabouts of Cherokee County, I thought I would let you know about this information in case it helps you. There might be other McKelroys still in the Priceville area. My own McLeroys are a little further down the interstate around Hanceville, Cullman, and Good Hope, all of which are in Cullman County, AL. We are part of line that came through Georgia, and descended supposedly from the John Mackelroy of Maryland way back when. I am nowhere near Priceville, so I am sorry to say that I can't run over to that cemetary to get the McKelroy information from the headstone, though I can say that it is fairly recent ( second half of 1900's ). For anyone else: of course, I will welcome all information on the McLeroys, and some McElroys, of my line: ( in order, from recent to farther back ) James Edward, John Henry (both of Cullman Co. AL), then Charles S. born in Oglethorpe Co. GA ( anyone know what the S is for? ), Edward Suicher born in Granville Co. NC, died Pike Co. GA, who married first cousin Mary Francis McElroy ( by the way, does anyone know how to pronounce "Suicher"? ) ; then John A. McLeroy born Wake Co. NC, died Oglethorpe Co., NC (anyone know what the A is for? ), then John McLeroy, then John McLeroy married Francis Durham. Of course, any additional information, as well as corrections, is welcome. We may still be related, but the John and Francis I was referring to had children born by 1713 in Baltimore Co., Maryland. From Maryland, they traveled through Virginia (evidence points to that fact) to Craven, Johnston, and Wake (boundaries changed) Co. North Carolina. From North Carolina, there was a migration to around Wilkes and Oglethorpe (boundaries again) Georgia before 1800. After 1800, they appeared to move on to other southern states, mostly Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas. A few to Arkansas. I'm not familiar with the ones in Henry Co., GA, but the chances are good that they were related. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Mcelroy, Tom L" <Mcelrotl@ARAMCO.COM.SA> To: <MCELROY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, June 11, 2002 1:49 AM Subject: RE: [MCELROY-L] Fwd: {not a subscriber} Re: John McELROY Sr. b. 1690,d. 1763 & Frances (?) > Is this the John & Frances married 04Nov1824 in Henry Co. These two gentleman would be my grand-father and father. Would these names be in your database. I know a little about my roots. I am really looking for the mother of Brown McElroy, my grandfather. This would tell me a lot.I have been told that my grandfather was Irish.Grandmother, Brown's wife was full Cherokee, all these events took place in Alabama.I am of mixed heritage and I believe a lot of my McElroy relatives are white.Do you have a Cenie McElroy in your database? someone did a lookup for me and I was told she lived next door to Brown McElroy, she was an aunt and she was white. Thanks a million.
