Waneta, I'm no help on the Tenn. questions, except that you might try topozone.com for a map. I found most of the rural cemeteries of my home county on their site. Now, I have a question... I have Adam C. McElroy m. Jean Cunningham on 16 Apr.,1804 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia. Is this your Adam Calhoun McElroy or a different Adam (have not found many Mc.s with that name)? I did not see Browne McElroy (or other spelling) in Family Adventures of John Mackelroy of Baltimore County, Maryland 1690-1983, by David V. Muckleroy. I also did not see Browne McElroy in Tom McLeroy's book. There area McElroys (and other spellings, mostly McLeroy) who lived in Sumter Co., AL who were descendants of William McElroy, son of John and Francis. Most of those folks were called Scotch-Irish. Most of the folks who came over who were called Irish came later - more nearly in the 1880s. This is what I have found, but I'm sure there are a lot of exceptions. Good morning to everyone, I am wondering do you see a Brown(e) McElroy in this McElroy book I have been hearing so much about. I am really trying to find out his mother and father's name, which would be at least 1840.Please let me know, thanking you in advance.I know they settled in Sumpter County, Alabama.
A cousin informed me today she was told by another cousin all the McElroy's in the US descend from 6 McElroy Brothers from Ireland. Has anyone on the list ever heard this? Have you been able to substantiate this information, if so what were your sources? Sharon McElroy

Hi, sir, do you have anything about the MCElroy's in Sumpter County, Alabama, names are Brown(e) McElroy,Willie McElroy, Eliza McElroy.I understan that my grandfather Brown McElroy was Irish, I am of mixed heritage, when I was a young girl, I had freckles and red hair, so I know there is some Irish somewhere in the line. Thanks soo very much for any information you can find. Oh my grandfather was married to afull Cherokee Indian, so he may not be included in the McElroy's in the book, being the times it was. Inter-marriages certainly was frowned upon in those days, more so than today. Sincerely, Geraldine McElroy Peters

A friend sent this obit to me a couple of days ago which was printed in the Atlanta Constitution (I believe that's the name of the newspaper in Atlanta, GA). I thought perhaps it might be of some interest to someone in our group - hope it helps. Lawrenceville McElroy, 88, ran cafe Evelyn McElroy, 88, of Lawrenceville drove a motorcycle, played professional basketball and ran her own cafe for 25 years. She was capable of handling anybody, thought Sheriff F. Quill Sammon. In 1963, he named her the first female deputy sheriff in Gwinnett County, which had just grarted growing, said his nephew, Frank Sammon of Lawrencevill. "She was pretty free," he said. "She was just the type every woman would want to be. She did everything a woman could want to do." She did the cooking at Evelyn's Grill, sold grave markers at one time and lived to fish, he added. She died of cancer Sunday. The funeral is at 11 a. m. today at Wages and Sons Funeral Home, Gwinnett Chapel. (Written by Kay Powell) Evelyn sounds like she was quite a gal!!! She's DEFINITELY one of ours! :o) Jeannette L. McElroy
