Is there any chance that David (above) will be making any more copies of his book, with the outside possibility that I would be able to obtain one? Thanks! Mark McLeroy Appling, GA

If the person you are looking for died before the mid 1950's they most likely had no social security benefits accumulated and as such a claim was never filed and they would not be listed in the SSDI. 3. The only mention of the name Brown that I've found so far is this: William Brown McElroy b. 18 Oct., 1826 in Caldwell Co., Ky. I doubt that there is a connection. You wouldn't find your father or grandfather in SSDI because they died before 1962. That is when the index began, so to speak. Go to the SSDI page on rootsweb.com. There is a link to another page that tells about the history of the Social Sucurity Death Index. If your grandfather was born in Ireland as late as 1871, have you tried finding a record of naturalization or immigration? Or a ship passenger list with his name on it? Or, how about death certificates for either of them? And, I wouldn't be so quick to assume discrimination due to a "Mixed Heritage", even in the South. Besides, by the 1870's, American Indians east of the Mississippi had been marrying white folks for close to 200 years. If you'd like to write to me directly and give me the information that you do have, I'll be glad to try and give you some more direction for your search. 3. Betty, Thanks for writing. I got David's book(s) last summer and they are just overwhelming!! When I find someone that you or some of the others is certain came from John (1690), I try to verify it with the books (when I have the time) or I make a note that that person is probably in the books. If I ever get to concentrate just on this family for an extended period, I'm sure that I'll have a boatload of questions for you. I hope you're not planning on going anywhere for the next twenty or thirty years. As to Adam (m. Juelly Dowde) springing from the Kentucky bunch, though, I have to say that he isn't. But that surely isn't set in concrete. I only know that at this point, I have extracted all of them from Rev. McElroy's "Scotch-Irish McElroys" and the "McElroy Family Newsletters" (except for a couple or three issues) and haven't found a single one named Adam. It is a possibility that Adam Calhoun could be from that family, though, as a desc. of James3 (John2,James1) who married Violet Davis Calhoun(?). If anyone has a thought on that, chime in. Out of all the people in my db, I have found only a handfull who are named Adam...the two mentioned above and the ones in Pa. who are from Thomas Ray McElroy's line. So, has anyone found a connection to the Adam who married Juelly Dowde?
