    3. a previous researcher had said in his notes that this McEleroy family came from Greene County, NY. I found a Jonathan MCElroy there before 1820, who was a blacksmith. William John McElroy was noted for his foundry work in Macon, Bibb County, GA, and was recognized for a gun that he built for use by the confederacy. I am interested in finding more info and connections to this McElroy group. WILLIAM JOHN1 MCELROY was born Abt. 1820 in Greene County, NY, and died in Macon , Bibb County, GA. He married EASTER FREENY December 27, 1849 in Macon, Bibb County, GA. Children of WILLIAM MCELROY and EASTER FREENY are: i. JULIETTE FERRIS2 MCELROY, b. December 13, 1854, Macon, Bibb County, GA; d. 3. I have been working on this line for about nine years now with no luck. This is my line below - note that my McElroys are in the Boston area and I notice that most of you have lines that generate from anyplace but Mass. I am looking for Benjamin's parents and grandparents. 1. Benjamin McElroy b: Abt. 1780 d: 09 October 1813 - Boston, MA : m Lydia Davenport 01 May 1803 in Dorchester, MA 2. Samuel Davenport McElroy b: March 1804 d: 11 August 1849 - Dorchester: m Hannah Holden Cushing 14 September 1825 Dorchester 3. Lucy Hannah McElroy b: 26 August 1826 d: 06 November 1904 Dorchester: m John Brackett Rumery 04 June 1846 in Dorchester, MA Benjamin was a harness maker by trade and lived on Mason St in Boston. Have had absolutely no luck and he is a 'brick wall' for me. Benjamin's father may have also been named Benjamin and may have served during the Revolution as a Private. However, National Archives could not locate his records. I believe McElroy is a hard name to trace in New England. I found an Agnis and Robert McElroy that I have listed below who would have been in Boston in the 1600-1700's. I have been unable to find any further records on them, but I do believe that they are related in some way to my Benjamin. Records of South Church, Dedham MA April 20, 1748 - Died Agnis McElroy the wife of Robert McElroy, aged about 70 years (pg 163) This would make her birthdate about 1678 August 26, 1758 Died Robert McElroy aged 82 years of thereabouts (pg 164) This would make his birthdate about 1676. Does anyone have any of the above in their data files? Thank you Pat Thayer

    2. My McElroy side is more recent then most that have been posted, but some Irish locations may be a connection. John McElroy b 1835 - d 1903 & Annie ? 1840 2 - Margaret 2 - George 2 - Catherine b 1867 - Jan 16, 1936 (my Great Grandmother) 2 - Mary 2 - Sarah This Family came by ship from England after John was accused of killing an English landowner in Donegal. The residents banned together to help the family escape to America around 1867 or just after. They arrived in Philadelphia and settled there. I haven't been able to find the family on any passenger lists or trace the family in Ireland. Most info was passed onto my mother from her Grandmother verbally before she passed, so it is very sketchy.

    3. To the best of my knowledge this is an outline of my McElroy family. Nathaniel McElroy was born 1797 in N.C. and died in Montague County, Texas. He lived in Tennessee, then Cole County, Missouri, then Dallas County, Missouri. He married Polly born ca 1796 in N.C. They moved to Texas about 1860. They moved with several other families-the Webbs, Boohers and Lackeys. They had the following children-Rebecca born ca 1831 in Tn., Lucy born ca 1832 in Tn., (she married John Lackey first then William Sullivan; John R. born ca. 1833 in Tn. and died 1882, (he married Narcissa Ann Webb); Winney born ca. 1835 in Tn.(spouse-Patrick King); Jane McElroy born 4-13-1837 in Tn. and died 4-16-1906. She was buried at the Red River Station Cemetery in Montague County, Texas. She married Thomas Moore Cardwell. Three of John R. McElroy's children were captured by Comanche Indians while living in Montague County, Texas. They were Martha Ellen, Jacob Nathaniel"Nat" and William Dora McElroy.

    3. James MCELROY and Sarah MCCUNE came to America in 1729. I descend through their son, Archibald, born 1730, Bucks Co., PA. He was married to Ann ASTEN. Their son, John, and his son, John (Wesley?) born January 21, 1777, in VA continues my line. This John married Elizabeth JAMISON, daughter of James JAMISON, and their son, James Jamison McElroy, was my great grandfather. Jamison was born April 10, 1811, in Yancey Co., NC. He married Margaret Saphronia WEAVER in 1841 in Buncombe Co., NC. Their fourth child, Jacob Silas, was my grandfather. He was born September 11, 1850, in Yancey Co., NC. Jamison and Saphronia moved their family fom Madison Co., NC to Boone Co., AR in 1870. Jacob married Sarah Elizabeth YORK in 1877 in that county. In 1888 Jacob moved his family to TX, living first in Bosque Co and also Erath Co. Elizabeth died in 1895 and was buried at Huckaby, TX in Erath Co. She left Jacob with six children. My dad, Lester Lafayette (L L) McElroy was about seven years old when she died and their were two younger than him.My dad married Ella Jane MCKINNEY. This is a brief outline of my tree from the immigrants to myself, Dortha McElroy Greenlee. I have been trying to determine if Esther MCDOWAL(McDowell) the mother of James McElroy and the wife of Hugh MCILROY, if she is a sister of Ephriam MCDOWELL, who traveled with the McElroys, McDowells, Campbells, McAlreaths, and at least one James GREENLEE, on their trip to America. I know some think this is true. I would like to have proof of that relationship. I will be glad to exchange information on this family. 2. We have had a very quiet Summer. We have had many new people join our list. I think it is time to share our McElroy interest with other subscribers. Our Roll Calls are not like those on other lists though because we don't just throw out names. We ask that you provide as much information as you can. If the name is all that you can provide, at least give us a time frame in which your ancestor lived and the general area in which you believe he or she lived, was born, died, or was married.
