    3. I am from the John and Frances Mackelroy line. I know nothing about the McElroys you mentioned. I am writing because my husband's family was from Oakland, Coles Co., IL. I worked a long time on Coles Co. before I discovered that his family came into neighboring Edgar Co. first. The Edgar Co. census taker on the 1850 census is the only one I have ever seen who asked what county folks were born in as well as the state. You might double check to make sure that your McElroys were not also in Edgar Co., IL. 2. --part1_78.317ba19.260e398a_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I have very little information on my McLeroy line. My grandfather --M. C.--Mack C. --McLeroy was b. ca. 1850 Ga. he died there around the early to mid 1930 married in 1881 to Martha E. Johnson -she died in 1927 in Cass Co., Tx. He went back to Ga. to be near his first family. I know nothing about them. One of his children with Martha was named Ziposa. Makes me think there is a connection to Andrew J. McLeroy/McElroy/McKleroy in Stewart Co., Ga. since he had a Posia in his household. But haven't found a link yet. Appreciate all responses. Welcome to the MCELROY mailing list! You are currently subscribed in "mail mode", which means that you will receive every posting made to MCELROY as a separate e-mail. The directions on how to change to digest mode are given below. 1. How to unsubscribe. Send a message to [email protected] that contains (in the body of the message) the command unsubscribe and no additional text. 2. How to subscribe. Whatever you just did worked, or you'd not be getting this message. But for future reference (for instance, if your subscription is cancelled for whatever reason and you want to resubscribe), just send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] 3. How to change to digest mode (several postings are combined and sent to you together as a single large message). There are two steps. First, send the command "unsubscribe" to [email protected] to discontinue mail mode. Second, send the command "subscribe" to [email protected] to start receiving digests. 4. How to change to NOMAIL mode. There is no formal NOMAIL mode. All you have to do is follow the directions above and unsubscribe when you want the messages to stop, and then when you want them to start again, simply subscribe again. 5. If you'd like to post a message so everyone on the mailing list receives it, just send it to [email protected] It will then be sent on to everyone in both mail and digest mode. You don't need to send it explicitly to both. 6. The listowner is Maryann Dixon Moseby. 3. Since first posting to McElroy-L a week and a half ago, I have learned more about William Thomas McElroy, thanks to very kind help from others. But there is still a lot more to learn. William T. was born 2/10/1843, died 10/21/1930. He married Sue Davison Calhoun [Calhoon], who was born 1/11/1844, died 1/28/1922 -- her parents were James P. Calhoun [12/5/1800-9/6/1875] and Eleanor Davison [10/24/1801-2/3/1894]. All of them were buried in Springfield. The McElroy pedigree seems thoroughly documented back to arrival in the US in 1729. However, I'm still looking for anecdotal information about the everyday lives of the McElroys. And, most importantly, I really need help with the CALHOUNs and DAVISONs, whom I can trace back with certainty only as far as the ancestors listed above. Any additional information or leads would be most helpful. Also, I am beginning to plan a research trip to Springfield in early June -- only my second visit there, the most important one coming back in 1952 when I was 13. Any recommendations for Bed & Breakfast accommodations would be appreciated. Thomas Bethel Colvin [grandson of Mary Claybrooke McElroy, daughter of William T. McElroy]

    2. I've been having computer problems and apparently missed some of my e-mail -- I am curious how your William Thomas McElroy of Springfield links to the James/ Sarah McElroy who came over in 1729? I have done research on James/Sarah and will be happy to share what I have on the records I found in early VA (1749 deed for the 169 acres on Buffalo River - as well as other McElroy deeds in Prince Edward Co. until 1789 when the younger 3 brothers left for KY) I am most interested in finding out about the two older brothers, Archibald & John, who moved to N.C. - I have some info on them, but lots of huge gaps of information on their children.... I am especially curious to find out what happened to the son Thomas Swinky/Stinky/Sankey McElroy named as grandson in William Aston's 1765 will probated in Old Orange Co. NC 1766 or so. I especially curious about the connection to Calhouns -- my ancestor was James McElroy who married Violet Calhoun in Prince Edward Co. VA 1777 - I thin k he was the son of the John McElroy who moved to Mecklenburg Co. NC 1771, but have had zero success in finding any thing resembling proof.... There were other McElroys in the Prince Edward Co. records (specifically a Rev. John McElroy - Baptists minister - who supposedly was one of the MD McElroys -- also a John McElroy/Mary who had land first in Prince Edward Co. then Buckingham Co. - which of course is a burned county) Will be happy to share the info I have....
