She married Davenport Graves, son of Lewis Graves, in Jasper Co GA in 1813. They moved to Dallas Co AL about 1820. Nancy died in 1840. 2. Child Apprentices in America from Christ's Hospital, London (1617-1778) By Peter Wilson Coldham I have recently acquired this book. If anyone has a look-up request, please send them to me and I will get to them as I can. I have already looked for all of the variations of McElroy that I could think of and there are none of them included. I have looked also for Wakefields and there are none. However, it has a very good index and will be happy to look for associated families for you. I also have some Tennessee books that I have recently acquired. I will make the same offer. I would like to limit those researches to the list surnames or closely tied surnames. Especially so, since I will be posting the information on the list. I will be posting the list surname details as I have time to do so. 1. [MCELROY-L] Who?? Where?? When?? & with Whom??
    2. I think it is probably time for us to refresh the list with information on our lines. The lists are both very slow right now and we have had several new subscribers in the last few weeks. I will start it off: WAKEFIELD: While the WAKEFIELD branch of my family has been pretty well documented by other Genealogists, I am still looking for proof to support the information supplied. My line starts from John WAKEFIELD b. abt. 1598. Married Mary UNKNOWN abt. 1613 in Kent, England. This line is followed through several generations to Barnet Hamilton WAKEFIELD (m. Lucy Goodwin abt. 1820) and his daughter Christiana Elizabeth, b. abt. 1823 in VA. McELROY/WAKEFIELD: Christiana Elizabeth WAKEFIELD married my gggrandfather Davis O. McELROY/McLEROY April 27, 1840 in Franklin Co., TN. Davis was born abt. 1812 in NC or GA. (It is possible that Davis had also married Mary Anna TATE February 27, 1834 in Green KY). I haven't documented the TATE marriage but it is listed in the IGI. In 1859, three years after the death of Davis, C. Elizabeth was married to Isaac Henderson HALL October 26, 1859 also in FCT. They had an addition four children. C. Elizabeth WAKEFIELD and Davis McELROY / McLEROY parented at least five children in FCT that I have been able to document. They are: Mary McELROY b. 1844, Sarah b. 1846, Zachariah b. 1848, John H. b. 1851, and last but not least is my ggrandfather, James Owen Wakefield McELROY b. 1856 (the same year his father died). James O. W. first married Rutha A. SCIVALLY on September 28, 1872. They apparently parented one child: William Davis McELROY b. July 12, 1874 in FCT. I don't know what happened to Rutha, but then James married M. J.(Mattie) HALL (b. Jan. 1853) in Winchester, FCT. They parented at least 10 children as well as raising William Davis McELROY. James and Mattie were my ggrandparents through their daughter Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) McELROY b. May 12, 1878 in FCT. Mollie married George Wesley BUCHANAN (b. October 17, 1872 in Yell Co., AR) on May 27, 1896 in Montegue Co., TX. My grandparents had twelve children and raised ten. My mother, the oldest daughter, Martha Ann BUCHANAN b. Nov. 21, 1899 in Cloud Chief, Washita Co., OK. This pretty well gives you an idea of my ancestry as far as I have the information. However, I have also been assured that Davis's parents were William McELROY, b. abt. 1780, m. January 14, 1801 in Oglethorpe Co., GA to Mary ARNOLD b. September 05, 1785 VA d/o Zachariah ARNOLD and Nancy BEASLEY. I am pursuing that link, but have been unable to prove it to my satisfaction. I do know that the mother of Davis was named Mary. She is listed in the Census living with Davis and again with C. Elizabeth after Davis's death and again in Davis's Will. I also found a William McELROY that married Mary ARNOLD in Oglethorpe Co., GA on January 14, 1801. Can anyone provide me with anymore information that might help me with this family? I will appreciate any information that I can follow up on to prove my information - or to disprove it. Well, who will be the next to give us the information on their families? 1. [MCELROY-L] 1895 Maps
    2. http://www.livgenmi.com/1895.htm You can research any town, county or state in the U.S. in 1895. It is a 1895 U.S. Atlas with maps, info on population (in 1895), whether town had post office, train station and/or freight depot. You can download maps and print them out for your records, also. http://www.livgenmi.com/1895.htm When the home page is downloaded, click on the list of towns and cities in the state you are researching. This will take you to a site that lists them by beginning letter. Click on the approp. letter and a whole list will come up. After you find the town you want and get the info from the list, click back to the home page and click on the approp. map. The maps take about 5 minutes download, but are well worth the wait. For the first time in the more than 20 years that I have been researching the paternal side of my family, I could get a better idea of the migration pattern for this family. It was a very big help to me and has given me new areas in which to look for the parents of my brick wall. I know his father was born in Scotland and his mother was born in England, but that is where the 'trail ends'..... has anyone researched any of the McElroys from the NY/NJ area??? Best regards, Debbi Gould in Santa Barbara, CA

    1. Re: [MCELROY-L] Springfield McElroys
    2. My McElroy line that I first find is in Matoon, Coles Co, ILL. Starting in 1860 with James or John (it's different on different census) McElroy, age 36, born approx 1824 in Ireland, living with Bridget McElroy, his sister who is 22, born in Ireland. In 1870, James McElroy is now John McElroy, age 47 with Bridget McElroy, age 34 and now there are her children in the household, James & Patrick Welch, ages 10 and 8, both born in Ill, but no Husband for Bridget. In 1880, John McElroy now has 2 nephews James and Patrick Welch and niece Mary Welch living with him. No sign of Bridget, the mother of the Welch children and I have no idea where Mary came from?? States all the 3 kids were born in ILL. Patrick Welch came to Kansas City and married my great grandmother in 1889. That's all I know about the McElroy line. Donna Fisher
