While B&N doesn't have the book, I recalled Larry giving me the address of Higginson Books. They will print (paperbound) the book, takes 8-10 weeks, for $28.00 plus shipping. Try <www.higginsonbooks.com>. They take orders by internet, fax and phone. Thanks, Larry Crocker. dotti
After a fruitless search of the Barnes and Noble offerings, I found The Scotish-Irish McElroys by Rev. John M. McElroy, to be unavailable. I contacted them by phone to see if there was a possiblilty of an order for the book but was told there was not. So, those of you who just got your books were the last lucky ones. Dotti
You can also get the book through Books on Demand http://www.umi.com/ I just checked the site and they have the book, but it costs $75.00 + shipping. It is paperbound. I ordered mine through them and had it within 2 weeks. If you go to the site, look on the left hand side of the page and you will see Books on Demand listed. Click there. I believe the title is "Scotch-Irish McElroys in America", at least that is the title on my book. Might make a difference when you are searching for it. Good luck. The name of the book is "Scotch Irish McElroys in America- AD 1717-1900" by Rev. John M. McElroy, D.D. I ordered it from Barnes & Noble on the Internet. I ordered it on 8/3/2000 and it arrived today 8/7/2000. http://www.barnesandnoble.com

Julie, I have about 15 different "McElroy" Newsletters from the mid 1970's. I have obtained a lot of info about my family from these. If you would like, I can make a copy and send them to you. They cover several most clans from all over, (PA, MS, GA, KY, TN, OH). The newsletters are about 10-20 pages long & printed front and back. I'm trying to figure out a way to put them on the Web somewhere, but have not had much time to work on it. Let me know if you want them. I live in Saudi Arabia and I will be able to bring the copies back to the USA in October. (too expensive to mail them). Have a nice day. Tom I'll send you my Gedcom file thru Hotmail. -----Original Message----- From: julie freeman [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, August 07, 2000 08:53 To: [email protected] Subject: [MCELROY-L] Re: Volunteer to provide updates on theMcElroy/McLeroy/etc. I am keeping an individual file also on each voluteer who sends an update so that I can document where the information came from. Have you ever been to McElroy, Texas? It is located on highway 96 from Jasper to Brookland. (very close to and south of Brookland next to the lake). It used to be on all the maps, but I think it has shrunk to just a very small community of less than 100. One of these days, I'll get back there. It'd be a great place to have a reunion. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, August 06, 2000 18:10 To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [MCELROY-L] RE: McElroy Publication In a message dated 8/5/00 8:04:41 PM Pacific Daylight Time, [email protected] writes: << My mother is a McElroy from East Texas. Hi, James...and thanks for volunteering. I'd like to have whatever you can send. At the moment I have only what has been previously published on MD clan. I only started this about five months ago and have been working furiously on Ky. clan as that is where my interest in this project all started. I'd like to ask a favor of all volunteers, please. I have at present about three thousand of the earliest McElroys in my "Colonial" file. I have another 1200-1300 in my personal McElroy file. Some in the Colonial file are duplicates which will be tied together and merged as we go along. They have been collected from birth, marriage and death indexes from various states. I have another couple of thousand that have not been entered in my database yet. Any info that helps tie them all together is appreciated. I will gladly take whatever format is available to you to send (.txt, .doc, snail-mail, etc...) If you are able to send GEDCOMS, please do. I can enter them into the database quickly and it makes comparison much easier and faster. Waneta, My mcElroys came to East Texas from Kentucky by way of Missouri. The story goes that three brothers left Missouri together ca.1845-50, headed for Texas. I have documented two of them; John W. and William "Will" W.(my 2g.gr.father) both married in Sabine County, Texas and raised families (large ones) here. They are both buried with wives in McElroy Cemetary which is in the Moore Plantation Wildlife Preserve in the Sabine National Forest, Sabine Co.,Texas. As for the third brother, I have only the name...James Addison or Madison McElroy. I have no family info on him at all. He seems to have left the area where his brothers settled and prospered. Between them, at one time, they owned abt. 1600 acres of good farm land. I'd really like to see if we can tie your lines into mine. Could be. There is a terrific bit of research been done on this family. If you can get me the right names to check in the indexes of books I have, your mother would be happy. Hi, I'd like to butt in about "the Scotch-Irish McElroys...". I also have a copy of this wonderful book which was originally published in 1901. The Higginson Book Co. has photocopied the book and reprinted it. It may be ordered directly from Higginson Book Co., phone #978/745-7170 or fax #978-745-8025, for a small savings. Available in soft or hard cover. As to your remark about updating...well, I'm the nut who wants to take that on. My mother is a McElroy from East Texas. I am collecting McElroy lines from all over the U.S. . Julia, I would like to send you my information. Brian McElroy
I have been researching Robert Greenwood McElroy who was born in Ireland in 1837. Robert's death cert (NY 1901)says his father was Robert McElroy, born in Scotland and his mother was Mattie McElroy, born in England. Robert Greenwood McElroy immigarted to the US in c.1856 and I have been able to track his line from that point forward. This line settled in NJ and Rockland County NYin the 1880-1920's... has anyone seen mention of this line in any of the books that have been mentioned in the past week??? My apologies to all...Iwas being rushed to leave here, and forgot to change the subject heading. Forgive? Jennifer Sherwood Braswell [email protected]
I am looking for William John McElroy who married Easter Freeny in BIBB CO GA in 1849. ...a descendant tells me that the McElroys of this line came from GREENE CO NY. I would love some info that shows a family connection to these. At this time, I do not know if he came himself, or if his predecessors came earlier. Jennifer Sherwood Braswell [email protected]
Sorry for the typo. The one you found is correct. As far as updating, I am not sure who would take that on. Since many of the people are decended from the author, it might be interesting to see the current lines. Brian
I looked for the book you mentioned at Barnes and Noble, and what I found was: The Scotch-Irish Mcelroys in America, 1717-1900 A.D. You wrote "...1717-1999..." is that possibly a type-O? I am hoping the book has been updated to include the next century of McElroys! Thanks~ ~Meg McElroy
