Hi List Samuel McCune Sr. was born 1772 in Ireland, and died July 17, 1829 in Bloom Twp Morgan Co. Fair Grace Cem. (Briggs Cem.) He married Sarah Briggs Bef. 1792 in Lancaster Co. pa. Daughter of John Briggs and Mary Brown. She was born November 25, 1770 in Lancaster Com pa. and died September 10, 1852 in Bloom Twp Morgan Co. Fair Grace Cem. Samuel and Sarah Briggs McCune had two children in Lancaster Co. Pa. before they moved to Ohio. They came to Ohio in the spring of 1797/8 together with Sarah's parents and siblings as well as Sarah's oldest sister Jane Briggs Finley's family. The party came down the Ohio River on a flatboat to Marietta Ohio where they stayed initially at the home of Colonel DuVall. They then traveled up the Muskingum River, settling first on Lands on the east bank of the Muskingum River about one mile below Duncan Falls. Samuel McCune moved around the present area of Muskingum Co. and Morgan Counties before finally settling in Morgan Co. 1812 Lived on a farm in present day Malta twp, Morgan Co. where daughter Nancy was born. By 1886, the farm was occupied by the Morgan County Children's home. The home was destroyed by the 1913 flood. 1816 Moved to Salt Creek twp Muskingum Co. and built a saw and grist mill, later known as burnt Mill, on the Big Salt Creek, near where the B.O. & C. railroad was later located. 1818 Moved to Bloom twp Morgan Co. where he purchased four quarter sections of land in section 3, there was no road from the Farm to McConnelsville 9 miles away, only a blazed path through dense woods that was traveled by horseback.
