    3. I'm looking for any other researchers of Capt Isaiah H. McCormick's family. Isaiah was born in Wyandot Co., Ohio in 1836 to James McCormick and Mary Ann Savage (Savidge) who were married in Muskingum Co on July 29, 1830. Isaiah served in Co. A of the 40th ILL Volunteer Infantry and in Co. E. of the 148th Ohio V.I. He gained the rank of Captain. He was wounded in service. Returning home, he married Rachel Walker, b. November 22, 1842, daughter of Marcus H. Walker and Harriet L. Ratcliff on March 18, 1864 in Vinton Co., Ohio. They had Charles E. McCormick, b Abt 1865; Cora E. McCormick, b. 1867; Annie L. McCormick, b. January 31, 1870; and Elba W. McCormick, b. 1872. Annie died in infancy. Isaiah was a Knight Templar Mason (32nd degree Master Mason), an Odd Fellow, a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Royal Arcanum and the Knights of Honor as well as a member of the Christian Church of Raysville, OH. In 1870, Isaiah and Rachel are in Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Ohio. In 1880 they are in Razsville (Raysville and later Ray, OH), Jackson (now Vinton) Co., Ohio where Isaiah listed as I. H. McCormich and is a Dry Goods Merchant. Rachel dies in 1898 and is buried in the Londonderry Cemetery in Ross Co. In 1910 Isaiah is listed as "D. H. McCormick" in Jackson Co., OH living with his daughter Cora and her husband, John S. Essex and their children Rachel S., Helen P., Maynard H. and Martin W. Essex. In 1920, Isaiah is in Jackson Twp., Jackson Co., Ohio, ED 73, pg 1A. On August 05, 1922, Capt Isaiah H. McCormick dies at the home of his son, Elba in Columbus, Franklin Co., OH. He is buried with wife Rachel, daughter Cora and her husband John Essex, John's brother George Essex, and an infant daughter of Elba's. Isaiah's bio is listed in The History of Jackson Co, http://www.scioto.org/Jackson/bios/jackson-city-2.html And he is mentioned on pages 165 and 167 in Chapter 6 of "History of Vinton County, Ohio Wonderland of Ohio" by Lew Ogan, McArthur, OH, 1954. He taught school and attended Otterbein University and held "offices of trust" in Vinton Co. As for his children, Elba married Alta Mae (last name unknown) on June 17, 1894 and moved to Columbus in 1900 after attending college and law school. He became a municipal judge and then served the City of Columbus as the Assistant City Attorney for more than 45 years. Elba's only son, Vaughn, fought and died in WWI, commander of his aerosquadran which included member Quinton Roosevelt, son of Pres. Roosevelt. Elba and Pres Roosevelt met in Columbus in 1918, shortly after both of their sons had been killed and exchanged gestures and kind words of sympathy, all reported in the Columbus Dispatch. Vaughn's fraternity house at Ohio State University was named McCormick Hall in his honor. Elba's daughter Doris never married. Elba's daughter Vera has the only downline, having one child (still living). Elba died in Columbus in June 1959. His death was front page news. I know nothing about Charles E. McCormick. Cora, as mentioned above, married John S. Essex, b. August 04, 1863 d. October 05, 1949. They have 4 children, Rachel, Helen, Maynard and Martin. Rachel b. Sept 20, 1898, d. Mar ? in Canal Winchester, OH, married Chester Clark and lived in Columbus (District 3, pg 1B) in 1930. Helen b. July 31, 1901, d. Feb 1981 in Ray, Ohio. is an elementary school teacher and never marries. Martin W. Essex, b. Mar 25, 1908 d. Nov 27, 1997 in Columbus, Ohio, marries Blanche Davis and lives most of his life in and around the Columbus area, mostly in Upper Arlington. He becomes a school teacher, a principal and eventually, the Ssuperintendent of Public Instruction for the State of Ohio. An Akron school is named for him as is a leadership program and a school for gifted students at Ohio State University. He is in the Who's Who and won numerous awards and recognitions. He is noted for creating the vocational education system in Ohio. Isaiah is my ggg uncle and has given me great insight into my gg grandfather, his brother, Louis Hezekiah McCormick, b. June 15, 1837. Other siblings are Ebenezer J. McCormick, b. February 1841, Reuben F. McCormick, b. 1843, Thomas T. McCormick, b. Nov 1845, Charles H. McCormick, b., Jan 1848, and Jane McCormick, the only daughter, b. Abt 1835. Here's hoping someone knows something and wants to connect. Chris (McCormick) O'Connor chrisoco@sbcglobal.net
