Since the recent flurry of postings, I've been motivated to add my family information, something that I've meant to do for quite awhile. The name in Ireland was generally McCormack, although it appears as McCormick, McCormac and Cormac in the parish records, all for children born to the same parents. I've learned that the Irish weren't particularly obsessed with consistent spelling. My family became McCormick once they settled in America. The family is from the Catholic parish of Ballina/Boher along the Shannon River in County Tipperary. My particular branch lived in the townland of Gortlassabrien about 2 miles east of Ballina. Thomas, Michael and James McCormack shared the occupancy of 70 acres in the townland - I first pick them up in the 1820's in the Tithe Applotment records. By the mid-1840's, the three men were no longer listed on the tax roles; seven men, probably sons, and 3 widows were shown as the tenants. By the mid 1850's, only Andrew, William and James McCormack were occupying the land. The others had moved on. Andrew and his wife Bridget Gleeson had six children, Thomas the oldest born in 1843. The others are Margaret, Susan, Mary, Michael and William. Mary was the only one to stay in Ireland - she married William Maher and they took over the tenancy of the land when Andrew McCormack died in the early 1870's. She was widowed young - of her three children, James, Andrew and William, I have only been able to track Andrew. He immigrated to Philadelphia in the 1890's. Margaret McCormick came to Kansas City in 1866-1867 and married John Bauerlein. They settled in St. Mary's, Kansas and had two surviving children, Mae Newton and Andrew Bauerlein. Susan McCormick also came to Kansas City, then on to St. Marys and then to Albuquerque. She married John Egger and had two children who survived to adulthood, John Joseph Egger who moved to North Dakota where he married and raised his family, and Margaret. Susan and her daughter moved back to Kansas City between 1900 and 1910 where they had both died by 1917. Michael McCormick went from St. Marys to Portland, Oregon where he married. He and his wife had no children. He died in the early 1930's at the Eastern Oregon State Hospital in Pendelton. William McCormick settled in St. Marys. His first wife died soon after the birth of their only surviving child, Josephine, who married Joseph Mees. William remarried and had four more daughters, Lucille, Catherine, Mary and Francis. These daughters all moved to California and although three of them married, none had children. Thomas McCormick settled in Dickinson County Kansas, on a farm near Chapman. He married Eliza Howe, whose father was also an immigrant from Tipperary. They had nine children, Nell (Dowling), Andrew, Michael, Margaret (Wadick), Thomas, Cornelius, William, Mary (Shortell) and Elizabeth (Gallagher). I have tracked two other McCormick families from Gortlassabrien who immigrated to Collingwood, Canada - those of James and Michael. I'm always looking for more McCormicks/McCormacks from the Ballina area - I've accumulated church and tax records in an effort to recreate family relationships. Theresa McCormick Liewer Ankeny, Iowa

Hello Norma, Unfortunately, I cannot answer your question regarding his possible wife. As I stated in my previous email, I don't know wether or not he had a family. For people who are were married, divorced or born in Texas, all those records are open and available on Ancestry.com web site. If you have a LDS Family History center near you, you can go in and use their computers to look at all these files, otherwise you need to have a subscription to the site. It makes it a lot easier to find out things about the Texas info. good luck..
