John T McCormick was born 1868 in Missouri (census records). He married Ida Josephine Halbert, 1898, in TX (?) They are on the 1900 census for Johnson Co., TX and the 1910 census for Erath Co., TX. Two children, were listed as John's step-children. Bessie May Halbert, born 1890, and Edith P Halbert, born 1894. Edith married my uncle, (James) Hubert McElroy. They later moved to Roosevelt, OK in Kiowa Co. I have found cemetery records in Roosevelt, OK, for Hubert and Edith McElroy and also John and Ida J McCormick. My dad told me that Aunt Edith's maiden name was McCormick. I don't know if he didn't know any better, or she had always gone by McCormick. (?) On the census record, for 1910 Erath Co., TX it is stated that John's paarents were born in Illinois. I will appreciate any help. Dortha McElroy Greenlee

If I come across any connections I will let you know. Vincent, Joseph, John - these are definitely names that occur in my lineage. Check out the online genealogies of Mark Edward McCormack, Scott M. Connolly, and Tracy Ernest. They appear to share overlaps with my known McCormick lines, and have branches that I haven't looked into yet. As far as I know, there seems to be a whole raft of McCormicks that left the Outer Hebrides and finally settled in the states. I haven't looked into any of those lines yet.

Based on other online genealogies, it appears my McCormick forefather (Donald M'Cormig) came to PEI from S. Uist with his brother (Angus) on the Alexander in 1772. After a time, the family moved to Cape Breton island. They appear to have settled in the Big Pond area. The line eventually moved to the Glace Bay area. They may have also lived in the Albion Mines area (now known as Stellarton), as my great-grandfather was reportedly born there. Any and all information that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Line appears to be: Dugald McCormick - S. Uist Donald McCormick - S. Hi, it appears this is a near miss. My grandfathers by coincincence are a James James combination. However, the James II was born in Frederick County, VA in 1768, and maried Jemima Violet. He died in Clark County Va., see following: James (Jr.) born 1768 Frederick Co. Va. Died 1841 in Clarke Co Va. He married Jemima Violett in Frederick Co. Va. James moved to Cabell Co. Va, but returned to Clarke Co Va. by 1830. Jemima evidently died in Cabell Co, and James did remarry. I can find no name for her as he does not name her in his will nor is her name on the deeds when his land was sold. It appears my line is not connected to yours. I have a couple James and Mary combinations in my lines, one is my brick wall. Could you give us some more of the down line so we can get a better picture of who y ou are looking for? My James McCormick married Mary Ann Savage (Savidge) whose family was from New Jersey but had settled in Wyandott Co., OH. James appears to be born around 1810 in Va or Maryland (depends on which census you believe). James' father was also a James and appears to be from Ireland. I haven't been able to connect him. James and Mary Ann McCormick had 7 children Jane - 1835 Capt. Isaiah H. McCormick - 1836 Louis Hezekiah McCormick, b. June 15, 1837. Ebenezer J. McCormick, b. February 1841 Reuben F. McCormick, b. 1843 Thomas T. McCormick, b. Nov 1845 Charles H. McCormick, b., Jan 1848 Louis Hezekiah is my gg-grandfather. All of these men have civil war records and survived the war. I am looking for information about my grandfather, Michael McCormac who became Milton/Michael McCormick after the Civil War. He was born Dec. 13, 1849. In applying for a Civil War pension, his letter stated he was born in Ireland, mother died when 8 months old, father died in St. Louis in 1857, and he was sent to live with John S. Gregg, Belmont, Ohio and left there at age 16 to join the Union Army. However, in a 1900 census, he states his father was born in PA, mother in Ohio and he was born in Napoleon, Ohio. That town has no birth record of Michael/Milton. I would like to find out where he was born and the names of his parents. He served in Co. G, 174th Regiment of the Ohio Infantry, went to Kansas City in 1866 and to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1874 where he joined the Grand Temple and then to Nickerson, Kansas in 1888 or earlier as he married Katura Mae Reed Oct. 18, 1881. He died July 6 or 7, 1925. With all this information I still can not find out the names of his parents. Any help would be appreciated. Patricia Jacobsen (jacopat@sbcglobal.net

Signal engaged a large force of enemy field batteries and sharpshooters, returning the fire until the ship was totally disabled, at which time the white flag was raised. Serving as gun captain and wounded early in the battle, McCormick bravely stood by his gun in the face of the enemy fire until ordered to withdraw.
