Dortha, No I don't recall John T as being listed in our tree. I have had a considerable and continuous problem tracing our McCormick tree. My Father paid a researcher who traced our McCormick Clan back to New York (Manhattan), however I personally feel that the specific New York ancestor list may be bogus. My GG-Grandfather William S. McCormick married Susana Hamil (correct SP who knows?) and lived in Hallock Township near Peoria IL. He and family are listed as McCormiSk on the only census I found that corresponds to family names. He and family later moved to Hardin Missouri and lived there at least as far back as the Civil War and later years. Unfortunately the portion of the Hardin Cemetery which contained the remains of my ancestors washed away some years ago in a flood. Dad remembered (he died two years ago) going to Hardin as a boy for family gatherings. My Grandfathers name was Henry Roy McCormick also born in Hardin, but lived in KCK and was a railroad Fireman until a train collision in the railway yard caused the loss of a leg. Afterwards he owned a Tavern on the NE corner of 6th and Central in KCK. Most of my family is buried at the Catholic Cemetery at 38th and State in KCK. Roy's Mother was Eva Dronenberg. Dad and I chased cemeteries and courthouses in Frederick Maryland and environs until we traced the original Frederick Ambrosius Tranberg landing on the ship Winter Galley in Philadelphia in 1635. Again the McCormick line is still incomplete. Unfortunately we are the Irish equivalent of "Smith" in that we are everywhere and with very many permutations of our name as you may have found. I moved to Wisconsin after I retired from Army Aviation. Until then I thought I was the last McCormick HAAA! Not even close. But I am the last in my line. Sometimes I get the facts a little off when I try to write while away from the family documents, but the essence is there. If your kin were from Texas then they had to be good folks :) Regards, Mike Michael McCormick West Bend, WI US mmccormick@seekcareers.com -----Original Message----- From: mccormick-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:mccormick-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Dortha Greenlee Sent: Monday, November 27, 2006 12:00 PM To: mccormick@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: McCormick Dora J. Michael, Do you have a John T McCormick? I have one by that name, born 1868, MO. The 1910 Erath Co., TX census, shows he was born in MO and both of his parents were born in IL. Also, I have him on the 1900 census for Johnson Co., TX. In 1898, he married Ida Josephine Halbert, who had two daughters, Bessie May Halbert, and Edith P Halbert. The girls show up on his census records as step-daughters. Edith married my dad's younger brother, James Hubert McElroy, 1913, Thurber, Erath Co., TX. They had no children. They are buried at Roosevelt, Kiowa Co., OK, and the McCormicks are both burried there also, in 1920. When I first became interested in the family history, I asked my dad what Aunt Edith's maiden name was and he told me McCormick. I didn't know about the name Halbert until I located these census records. I hope we can help each other. Castle Garden was America's first official immigration center. The site, Castle Garden.org, hosts a database of info on 10 million immigrants, from 1830 through 1892, the year Ellis Island opened, and will eventually complete the digitization of the remaining 2 million records, beginning in 1820, from the original ship manifests. Information includes: First name, Last name, Occupation, Age, Sex, Date Arrived, Origin of Ship There are 1614 McCormick records on the site. http://www.castlegarden.org/ Nancy Nancy www.thepastwhispers.com

It's possible they were of the McCormick family of Somerset Co, PA, given the migration patterns. Does anyone recognize this family group?

Hi Slainte, Visited Ireland a few years ago. Had a great time. The Dooley I mentioned was written on the back of a deed of a Duner who was connected to the Carroll and Carley (my line). My gm Mary Carley McCormick was born (abt 1870-73)in Jersey City. Her parents were Thomas & Margaret Carley and had three children. Her mother Margaret was a widow in 1880 census with James, John & Mary living on Morgan St. in Jersey City. I don't know where James was buried but his name in written on back of deed by someone in the family years ago. The Carley and McCormick are buried in Holy Name Cemetery, Jersey City and outsider Sam in Arlington, NJ cemetery not being Catholic. John Raymond and Vincent Joseph 1897-1957, my father also buried in same cemetery being Catholic. Interesting thing about this deed. Mary's bother My uncle John was buried 1928 in this Carley plot as was my Uncle Earl Francis McCormick 1932 being youngest son of Sam & Mary. When GM Mary died in 1943 they wouldn't open the grave for someone had picked up the title between these 11 years. Interesting that you mentioned Wayne St. I found census with McCormick's living on Wayne St. years ago but didn't think we were connected. I grew up a few streets from Wayne on Montgomery St where my grandparents also lived. They moved to Summit/Room Sts. after Earl Died and also found some McCormick's in that area at the time. When Poppa died my Uncle John Raymond 1899 (who never married and supported them) moved to 33 Wayne St. until his death in 1985. Margaret worked as a house keeper in St. Peters Rectory to support the children. I have not been able to find a marriage certificate on Mary & Samuel McCormick my grandparents. Think they were treated like they had the plague when they married out of Catholic. My gf was a son of a Methodist Episcopal Minister of Newark, NJ. Poppa Sam's mother died when his was young (Josephine Force McC) and he went to live with his sister Adeline McCormick Bowden who had one daughter Josephine Bowden Ogden. The Ogden's had a transport business that Sam worked at when a young man. Hope this helps. Forgot to mention their was a beautiful very large headstone behind my Uncles that had Dooley on it but not one name. Wondering if it was brought when they purchased the plot but never used.
