The name McCormick comes from the Latin Cormagus, who was a favorite charioteer of Caesar in 11 A.D. He was granted lands and titles and it is from him that we originally came from. It is unclear whether we originated in Scotland or Ireland, but were known to be in both.In the 16th century, McCormicks of Scotland, around Mull, went to Ireland under the Ulster Plantation laws. It is said that Cormack was a Primary King of Ireland until his death at the hand of an invading Viking in the 16th century . Shortly thereafter, the Irish abandoned the monarchy. I'm glad to see someone so young interested in their family history. An ancient Chinese philosopher once said, " How can a man know where he is going without knowing where he has been?" Does anyone have an Emily McCormick who married George Washington Snider. Probably in Randolph County, Missouri. George was my husbands great grandfather. Emily was his first wife and after her death he married Susan Mildred Reed (our line). George's parents were George and Matilda Blevins Snider. And, after his death Matilda married Jonah L. Rubison/Ruberson. We wonder if all of these families might be inter related. In the 1870 census a J. Ruberson was living in the home of a McCormick family. This was Chariton, Randolph, Missouri The family was: B. McCormick age 59 born in VA ER 66 born in VA RW 39 Male born in MO Fray M T 27 female MO El 6 male MO HB 2 male MO Ruberson J. 30 male - works on farm Wonder if this might be the parents of Emily.
