It was my father's grandfather that is my brick wall. Not born in U.S. and unable to track him prior to obit in 1878.Thankfully can track his decendents as they stopped in Laclede Co., Mo for their last move. I too am a McCormick. I have been searching without any luck for information on my greatgrandfather Benjamin McCormick. The only information I have is his name of course and he came from Ireland where he was born in 1825. I don't know when he arrived in the states and married Eliza (perhaps)Phenel who was born in Tenn. One of their children, the oldest ,William, was born there. The other 3 were all born in Missouri. The third child,James Dempsey, was born in Texas county, Mo and the 4th Laclede co.Mo. He died Sept.1 1878 in the obit says native of Ireland never naturalized in U.S. any info would be Greatly appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Your William is not my William. But there are a lot of names that are the same. My William came to the US in about 1837 and married in up state NY. in Fulton Co. He married Rebbeca Vedder. She had to children James and Mary. No, I do not know the name of William's first wife. But I have heard that he had a second daughter that was older than Bridget that was married and stayed in Ireland. My William came over with his brother I thing Peter and they were separated on the docks in N.Y. and never saw each other again. I have reason to believe that Peter had a son named John. Tom, I do have a William McCormick, however born in 1828, son of John Mccormick. John's father was James but I have no information at all on James and any other children he might have had, but with naming traditions in Ireland, there was a good chance that there was a William in that generation as well. Do you know who Bridget's mother and William's wife was? My William did not emigrate however his wife did after William's death. JoAnn: I maybe interested. I have a William McCormick born 1804 in Ireland with a daughter Bridget. I do not know where in Ireland they came from but they left from Liverpool, England.
