Liz, I did some research on this couple a few years ago for one of their descendants. Are you a descendant? Most of the information on this family comes from the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Volumes IV, Ohio and VI, Virginia by William Wade Hinshaw: Vol. VI, Virginia, p. 600, Crooked Run Monthly Meeting, Warren County, VA: "3 October 1787 - James M'Connel, Frederick Co., VA, son of Morris and Elizabeth, Tirone Co., Ire.: married at public meeting at Stafford, Rachel ANTRAM, daughter of Daniel and Susannah, Stafford Co., VA." This could be interpreted in different ways. Some contributors online seem to think that James was born in Ireland, which could very well be true. Others claim he was born in Virginia. Until more proof is found, I take it to mean only that he was living in Frederick County, VA at the time of his marriage to Rachel, not that he was born there. There are a lot of Quaker records online. You may be able to find more information at one of those sites. Hope this helps.
