I'm aware of McConnells in northern New Jersey as I actually live in Sussex County, but this is the first that I've heard of a Mary and Hugh in Orange County. I've been trying to find a fit with the New Castle, DE, clan because one census indicated a connection there. But I'll definitely look into Orange County. This family did seem to travel a lot, although my husband's grandmother mentioned the railroad as their occupation and not boats. James' wife was named Abigail and seems to have been born in Pennsylvania. I don't know her maiden name but an unsubstantiated source in Family Seach claims that it's Westbrook. And there happen to have been Westbrooks in the Sussex County area as well. If I can help you with finding things in northern New Jersey let me know!
