My gg grandfather, James Alexander McConnell, was born in Rodricks, Canada in 1846 (according to Death Certificate). His parents, George and Elizabeth (Willis) were born in Ireland. I know James immigrated to US in 1864 and ended up in Austin, TX, by 1883. This past Christmas, I had my brother send in DNA to Ancestry.com. I have to say that I was very disappointed - the results were confusing and told me nothing I could understand. Fortunately, I contacted Kirsten (she has contributed to this thread), and she has helped me immensely. With her help, I submitted my brother's DNA to the Clan Donald project and we shall see what develops there. Bottom Line: If you are fortunate enough to have the relative to send in a DNA sample for testing, don't be afraid to ask for help!! People like Kirsten really understand the results and can help us negotiate through the web of daunting information. Meanwhile, I read (and enjoy) all the McConnell postings and hold the hope of finding a clue to my McConnell ancestry. Claudia McConnell PS: Does anyone know where Rodricks is in Canada? **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Hello I am researching the origins of my great grandfather Henry Scott McConnell born c. 1839-1842 possibly in County Antrim, Ireland Henry's father was Scott McConnell Henry McConnell married Anne McCain/McKain 1863 in County Donegal. Anne was born 1838-1842. Her parents were John McCain/McKain and Anne Creswell. Henry and Anne McConnell arrived in America between 1864 and 1867, possibly from Londonderry to Philadelphia aboard the SS Stadcona. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I have been unable to find any further information on their early life in Ireland. Thanks very much Lyn
It's very exciting to have Claudia's brother in the project for a couple of reasons. One is that although he was not tested through the project, Claudia has found it and has the opportunity to look for matches within it. The other reason his joining the project is so exciting is that he joins a nice little group of men on the R1b Red table for the project. This is the group of relatives of the kings of the old kingdom of Dalriada. This group is fairly large, with 56 members, plus another 14 in 2 subgroups created from the group. Currently, there are 3 McConnell men in that group and 2 MacConnell men in that group, and they are all more closely related to each of the other 4 than they are to anyone else in the group. It's probable that the five men share a common ancestor born within the last 15 generations. Claudia's brother is also a close match for a man who was tested through the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF), and that man traces his line to Oneida County, New York. I don't know where Rodricks is in Canada, but Oneida County is not so very far from the Canadian border. Claudia would love to get in touch with any of these 5 matching men as soon as possible. The project administrators may or may not have e-mail addresses for the 4 men in the project; I don't know about that. So they may or may not be able to put her in touch with them. It's very unlikely that they would be able to help her get in touch with the family of George Lansing McConnell of Oneida County, NY, since that George is the ancestor of the man tested through SMGF. Does anybody out there know how Claudia might get in touch with any of these men? The 4 in the project are K. G. G. McConnell, J. MacConnell, F. G. MacConnell, and M. B. McConnell. We don't have initials for the SMGF participant, but do know that he descends from George Lansing McConnell of McConnellsville in Oneida County, NY. Claudia, thanks for the kind words.
