    1. [McConnell] McConnell PA to WI (Alexander, Elizabeth, Katherine, James)
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: jadina Surnames: McConnell, Reynolds Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcconnell/2438/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, I'm looking for any info I can get on the McConnell family.... I don't have a lot of info, but this is what I do have (mostly from Census records): Alexander McConnell b. abt 1826, PA was married to Unknown Elizabeth b.1824 in PA or OH. They had at least three children, all born in Wisconsin: Katherine (b. May 1854), James (b. abt. 1864) and Harrison (b. abt. 1866). I am most interested in Katherine because she is my 3greats-grandmother. She married Everett Elisha Reynolds (b. Aug 03 1847 Hartford, Maine) on Jul 3 ,1881 in Jefferson Co., WI. According to what info my grandma knew about this family, the McConnells were fairly wealthy. According to the census, Alexander's father was born in Scotland. Any help would be wonderful! 1. [McConnell] Reg: NARA fee increases Thanks to RootsWeb
    2. Instructions for Writing to NARA By Sue Axton The 7 March 2007 issue of the Review discusses the US National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) proposal to increase its fees for photocopying records; notably, it mentions their proposal to increase fees for copies of Civil War pension files from $37 to $125. I went to the NARA site to find a place to make a comment on the fee increase, but the site is almost impossible to figure out. Maybe you could give step-by-step instructions in a future newsletter. Also, maybe you could encourage people to write their representatives. I am not against a reasonable fee to cover the cost of paper and ink, but $125 for Civil War pension records is way out of line. That puts the cost out of reach for most researchers. I would pay an extra fee if the records I request would be put online for everyone to access. As long as they are going to the trouble of copying them once, how hard would it be to put them on the website? [Editor's Note: Comments on the NARA proposal for a photocopying fee increase must be made by 27 April, so if you have comments submit them soon. The following are step-by-step instructions for submitting your comments: 1. Go to www.regulations.gov. 2. Under "Search for," select "Documents Open for Public Comment." 3. Under "Agency," select "National Archives and Records Administration*." 4. Under "Document Type," select "All Document Types." 5. In the "Keyword or ID" field, type "NARA-07-0001-0001." 6. Select "Exact Phrase." 7. Click the "Submit" button. You can read the proposed rule by clicking the PDF icon in the "Views" column. You can add your comments by clicking the yellow balloon icon in the "Comments" column. Also, you can e-mail comments to your government representative at: http://www.house.gov/writerep/.] To view the 7 March 2007 Review announcement about the proposed NARA fee increase, visit: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/review/2007/0307.txt PLEASE, PLEASE WRITE TO THEM TODAY!!!!!! 2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: JayneBeech Surnames: McConnell, Moore, Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.mcconnell/2405.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Plaingrove Presbyterian Church isn't too many miles from where I sit at this moment, however the old church burned about 10 yr. ago and they replaced it with a new one. I have no idea if the old records are in the local library, or with the local Presbytery or if they were destroyed in the fire. I do know there is a cemetery across the road from the church because some of my McConnells are buried there. There is an Old Seceder Cemetery in Washington Twp. Lawrence Co. PA and it can't be far from where the Prime Outlets off Rt. 79 are, but I can't recall the exact location. If you have a map the outlets are where Rt. 208 crosses Rt. 79. That cemetery has another name also and I can't quite pull it from memory. I don't have any spouses for Dinas' daughters; I do have 3 sons...the usual names, John, James, and William. Wm has a birthdate of aft. 1774 which looks like someone's reasonable guess, I don't know how correct it is. James was married 2ce. Margaret gave him: Elizabeth Jane, Washington & Cornelius. His first wife, Elizabeth Daniels gave him 9 children: James, John, Margaret, Rebecca, Kinsey, George, Mary, Prudence, Sarah. What makes this so difficult is that the same names repeat in every generation. James s/o Dinas married Sarah and they had: James, Sarah, Alexander and Ann. Wm s/o Dinas; no information. I think perhaps the Hannah I was wondering about is the son of James and Adalaid Moore McConnell. That James is the son of James s/o Dinas that married Sarah. Incidently, I know the local library has some information on the beginnings of the Neshannock Presbyterian Church in it's files. That is an excellent library, by the way. You can call them and if they have the time, they will look it up for you. You might check the website for New Castle or Lawrence Co. I am not sure what all is there, but I think I saw a link for the library. Dwight Copper has done a lot of work gathering cemetery information and has a lot of it on the shelves at the New Castle Library. I looked up that Seceder cemetery in my files. I think it is the Prospect cemetery situated on the Martin Brothers Farms, George Washington Rd. Washington Twp. Lawrence co PA and Dwight Copper has a book on the shelves at the library with all the stones he has read. That cemetery is also called the Martin/McConnell cemetery. Does that help any? I have checked, and I don't have any other Hannah's in the family. McConnell's seem to like to honor past geneations by naming children after loved ones. No luck in this case. I am trolling for casual links at this stage in the family tree investigation. I am looking for any connections with the Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, in Harlensburg, Pa, the Secender Burial grounds in the general Harlensburg area, and the Neshannock presbyterian church in its earliest years. Somewhere in there is the burial locations of Denis and Bridget McConnell, I am also looking for marriages of Denis & Bridget's 6 daughter (Nancy, Elizabeth,Margaret, Rosanna, Catherine, and Rebekah) in the early 1800's in that area. Also any lines the come from John McConnell (born ~1784) who would have married locally. John had 4 children - James b-1807, Sarah, Alexander (B-18120 and Ann (b-1814) I am also looking for any other early connections from the 1790's up to 1820's in the Lawrence, Butler, Mercer County (Pennsylvania) areas. Just on the general theory that someone knew my lines and probable intermarried. If I really get lucky, I will find another child of Deni and Bridget or a sibling odf Denis who may have traveled to Indian country pre 1790 census. A large gathering of friends and relatives were present to pay their last respects. Two beautiful selections, "The 23rd Psalm" and "Abide With Me" were sung by a male quartet from the Third U. P. church composed of Roy McCown, Arthur Minnick, Clare Lutz, and Evan Enoch accompanied by Miss Anna Murdock. Pallbeareres were: Earl, Arthur, and Clyde McConnell, Clare Lutz, Albert Sankey, and Finley Matthews. Interment was in the Portersville U. P. cemetery. NOTE: Findley Essington McConnell was his correct and full name. It was common in the mid-1800's for Christian families to name their children with the surnames of favorite ministers (and sometimes doctors) who had served churches in the area. That is where his name came from according to family history. He was the s/o Benoni and Mary Ann (English) McConnell of Portersville, PA.
