I'm trying to find the ancestors of a Nancy McConnell, wife of Joseph Stewart(Steuart/Stuart) of Mifflin or Cumberland or Juniata co PA (depending on which year the counties came into being!) Nancy was probably born bet. 1755 & 1760. Their children, in order of birth, were Margaret (1779), Elenor, George, Elizabeth, Rachel, Martha, Nancy, John, Joseph, James, & Watson (b.1798). Since George is first male child (Joseph's father was 'John of Lack Twp') could Nancy's father be a George? If anyone has any info of anyone listed, please let me know! Thanx...Mary L Stewart Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am related to their son Reason. I do know Elizabeth married Simmons after Rupe died, but again, no information. If anyone has any source information, I would love to hear from you. C. McConnell on the tables of the Clan Donald DNA Project. The tables were just updated, and now there are three such men in the project. The R. C. McConnell who matches the Connell tested through SMGF is now the third R. C. McConnell listed on the tables. For McConnell researchers in general, the good news is that there are now 24 McConnell men on the project tables. This is a substantial increase from the total of 14 men listed on the tables as of last May 11. The project as a whole has also experienced substantial growth with the number of men on the tables growing from 434 as of June 11th to 550 today. Did you receive it? Here is a copy of the email: Yes, the McConnell family I am researching had a mansion on Sunbury Street. Actually, I'm not related to the McConnells either, but I live in Shamokin and am researching various prominent families in the area. You can find a lot of information about W. C. McConnell at this link: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/northumberland/bios2/f096123.txt It is a transcription of Floyd's Genealogical and Biographical Annals of Northumberland County, 1911. (McConnell is mentioned somewhere around the middle of the page.) If it's the mansion you're interested in, I don't know much except that it wasn't built by W. C. McConnell, but more likely by someone in his wife's family (Martz), and was demolished in the 1970's. Let me know if you'd like further info; I have plenty! My father was born Gordon Thomas McConnell in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was place in an orphanage at birth I believe because of his mothers unmarried situation. Eventually he was adopted by a couple that ended up moving to British Columbia. His surname was changed but his given names were not. He did take steps to contact his birth mother awhile back - about 7 or 8 years ago? The adoption agency in Saskatchewan did find her but she was not willing to meet my Dad or the rest of his family for reasons that I understand completely. She would have been about 90 - 93 years of age at the time and she was living in a retirement home. No one ever knew about my Dad apparently and there would have been a lot of negative stigma at the time she would have given birth to my Dad. But why did she name him Gordon Thomas McConnell? She ended up getting married and as far as I know she had 2 other children. I have always wondered who my Irish grandmo! ther was and alway wondered about my roots that I will possibly never know. I noticed the name Gordan Thomas on this website and now I am wondering again. My Dad is living in Alberta, Canada at present. He is 76 years old. I wonder if there is any connection? Probably not but I had to query the possibility. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. C. McConnell in the Clan Donald DNA Project. This match is a Connell who tested through the Sorenson Molecular Genealogy Foundation, so he is not in the Familytree DNA database, and he has not joined the project, so he does not appear on the project results tables. I am not sure how R. C. McConnell could get in touch with his Connell match, but it would probably make sense for him to try. I am planning to make a post to the Connell message board about the project and this match this weekend. Maybe that will help these men get together if they haven't already found each other. However, the primary source I have (written by Charles Martin and researched by Lake F. Compton) does not pursue spouses of McConnells in subsequent marriages after their husbands die. That does not mean there is not a knowledge in the family about them, but more focus was paid to the family line. One person I know of who may be able to help you is Wayne G. McConnell of Scott County. He is VERY active in genealogy about the family. The Scott County clan is very connected and has a re-union every year (They call it a Hooley). I am connected as a descendant of Thomas James McConnell, son of George's brother, Nancy (sometimes see also as Ann) who had the son out of wedlock. She later married a Dingus, but there is a line of McConnells running from him. Wayne's address is 110 Embar Road, Gate City, Virginia 24251-3509. If anyone is knowledgeable about this or would know who is, Wayne is your best bet. He can tell you where every McConnell who lived in Scott County since they migrated here is buried.
